Compiling Imperative and Object-Oriented Languages - Activation RecordsGuido Wachsmuth
1. Activation records, also known as stack frames, contain information about the execution of methods.
2. They are placed on the call stack and include the method's local variables, partial results, and return address.
3. As methods are invoked, new activation records are pushed onto the stack and popped off when the method returns.
4. The Java Virtual Machine uses a stack-based design where operands are pushed onto the stack, the operation is performed, and results are left on the stack or in local variables.
The document discusses a lecture on pretty printing and declarative syntax definition. It compares SDF to context-free grammars, noting SDF provides additional description means like regular expressions and layout. It also discusses how these additional features in SDF are needed for compiler construction.
This introduction lecture sets the scene for the course. We introduce the notions of software languages and language software from a bigger, interdisciplinary picture.
We start with a linguistic discussion of language, its properties, and the study of language in philosophy and linguistics. We then investigate natural languages, controlled languages, and artificial languages to emphasise the human ability to control and construct languages. At the end of the first part of the lecture, we arrive at the notion of software languages as means to communicate software between people.
In the second part of the lecture, we extend the notion of software languages as means to realise processes on machines. We give an overview of language software, starting from interpreters and compilers. We then introduce various language processors as basic building blocks of compilers. We continue with a comparison of traditional compilers and modern compilers in IDEs. Finally, we introduce traditional compiler compilers and modern language workbenches as tools to construct compilers.

This document proposes moving from the current help file system to a new web-based solution using XML technology for incident management. The current help file system has several disadvantages like being its own system, not being searchable or compatible with other programs. The proposed solution would use a web-based system with an XML backend for flexibility, ease of use, cost savings and no need for current help file training or licenses. It would allow for searchability, linking to other resources, and collaboration with clients. This new system would streamline processes, increase productivity and decrease costs through benefits like decreased downtime and improved performance.

The document is intended to educate readers on Watson services that can be accessed through Bluemix and their capabilities.
Abstract
The technology of voice browsing is rapidly evolving these days. It is because the use of cell phones is increasing at a very high rate, as compared to connected PCs. Listening and speaking are the natural modes of communication and information gathering. As a result we are now heading towards a more voice based approach of browsing rather than operating on textual mode. The command input and the delivery of web contents are entirely in voice. A voice browser is a device: that interprets voice input and interprets voice markup languages to generate voice output. That interprets a script which specifies exactly what to verbally present to the user as well as when to present each piece of information. Benefits Voice is a very natural user interface which speeds up browsing.
This document is a project report submitted for a Bachelor's degree in Technology. It discusses developing a voice-based application for restaurants using Voice XML (VXML).
The introduction provides background on VXML and how it could help improve the customer experience for ordering food and making reservations at restaurants. It notes the current human-based interface in most restaurants and proposes features like placing orders and booking events over the phone using VXML.
The report is organized into sections covering the software requirements, design, implementation, testing and screenshots of the VXML application created for restaurants. It concludes by discussing opportunities for future improvements to the system.

Editor's Notes
eServices and Rich Internet Applications are getting more and more popular, not only for interacting with the government but also in the social space (like facebook, myspace etc.). We have started a project to address the first problem together with customers in the public sector where we take the way a screen reader interpreted a well coded online-form and made a solution where the form itself is self-speaking using ReadSpeaker® technology. It is about bringing the screen reading technology to the web where it can be used by all visitors that needs to listen as well as to read. It is targeted towards people with various reading handicaps as well as people with language difficulties. This will result in betting eGovernment inclusion, less wrongly submitted forms and a feeling of “I can make it myself” for the users who otherwise could not easily fill in these forms without special assistance. The solution we have developed for speech enabled web forms not only reads out the form labels but also reads aloud what you have written in the fields and what choices you have made.
