The Crowsnest Fires in August 2003 started as a seasonal wildfire but grew into a giant fire. It destroyed over 20,000 hectares of forest, affecting local tourism and timber industries. While the fire caused damage, it will allow a rich undergrowth to develop and create ecological diversity in the burnt areas.
