Crimes against people are generally referred to as felonies. Felonies include homicide, battery, assault, kidnapping, and hate speech. Homicide is any killing of one human by another and includes both murder and manslaughter. First-degree murder involves premeditation, cruelty, or occurring during another serious crime like rape or kidnapping. Battery requires criminal intent or recklessness and involves forcefully using hands, weapons or other objects to harm another person. Assault is an attempt to commit battery through actions like pointing a gun, scaring someone to harm them, or jumping at a person. Kidnapping unlawfully takes someone against their will through false imprisonment and moving them to another location.
