The document discusses rural broadband connectivity in Scotland, noting that while progress is being made to meet the Scottish Government's 2015 targets of 85% premises connected to next generation broadband and no area having slower than 2Mbps, there remains a "final 10%" without adequate connectivity. It suggests community-led broadband solutions could help provide access for this remaining group. Specifically, it advocates supporting communities to develop their own broadband infrastructure and sharing learning between different community approaches. The document provides contact information for the author to discuss this issue further.
The United Workers Party has expressed concern about the deteriorating service from regional airline LIAT and the silence of Saint Lucian government ministers on the issue. This document discusses regeneration efforts in various areas in the UK. It outlines some key factors for successful regeneration, including attracting new businesses through available land, infrastructure, and an employable local workforce. Regeneration areas need strategic partnerships between local councils and other organizations to set priorities and visions to attract investors. Successful regeneration examples, like in Newcastle Gateshead and Manchester, involved collaboration between local councils, universities, and focusing development around new industries. Transport infrastructure is also an important factor but not sufficient on its own; cultural and education investments can also attract private funding that drives regeneration.

HS2 New Connectivity for the West Midlands - Toby Rackliff, September 2013Design South East
Toby Rackliff discusses how HS2 will improve connectivity for the West Midlands region of the UK. HS2 will connect London to the West Midlands in under an hour and connect cities like Paris closer than Glasgow. It will be a catalyst for development in the West Midlands and improve access to skills. Studies show that HS2 will significantly increase the working age population within 45 minutes of Birmingham and West Midlands stations. The package proposed aims to maximize these benefits through improved local and regional connectivity.
Dynamic road pricing and the UK's 'roads trilemma'AndrewCliffe7
The Government plans to invest £14.7 billion to improve the UK's road network, including starting or completing major projects like the Lower Thames Crossing and planning over 30 other upgrades mostly in northern and central England. It also wants to lower the carbon footprint of domestic transport by accelerating the shift to electric vehicles with support for charging infrastructure and grants for electric cars. However, banning new petrol and diesel cars by 2030 will reduce fuel duty and tax revenues for the Government at a time when it is already borrowing heavily to deal with the budget deficit due to the pandemic. This leaves the Government facing a "roads trilemma" of decarbonizing roads, boosting connectivity, and maintaining tax revenues, so it is considering road
1) HS2 is a proposed £36 billion high-speed rail line from London to Birmingham, and later to Manchester and Leeds. However, critics argue the large cost could instead pay for services like healthcare and education facing cuts.
2) Only 1% of the British public uses long-distance rail regularly, and even fewer travel the proposed HS2 route, questioning who will use the new rail line.
3) Critics argue that instead of spending on HS2, the funds could go towards services facing cuts - including the police, ambulance services, education, transport, and assistance for the disabled - which provide greater public benefit.

COUNCILS in Leicester and Leicestershire say the government's sidelining of an £800m investment
in the Midland Mainline will be catastrophic for the economies of Leicestershire and the region.
The government has announced this morning that its
planned electrification of the Midland Mainline -
linking London to Sheffield and speeding up trains
between Leicester and London - will be delayed
indefinitely.
Leicester City Mayor Peter Soulsby and Leader of
Leicestershire County Council Nick Rushton say the
move will have a massive economic impact on all of
the cities and towns on the planned route.
Peter Soulsby has called on the government to get its priorities right and scrap plans for a high-
speed rail network known as HS2 and continue with its planned investment in the Midland Mainline.
"The economic payback from the electrification of the line would be far more significant and certain,
than anything that might ever come out of the mirage that is HS2" he said.
"It would reduce journey times, increase capacity and take polluting diesel trains out of the hearts of
our cities. Paying for it would cost comparatively small change, and if the government can't control
the relatively small costs of electrification, how can we have any confidence it its ability to control
the estimated £42 billion cost of HS2?"
Nick Rushton, Leader of Leicestershire County Council said: "The investment in the Midland
Mainline would have a major, positive impact on Leicestershire, for a much lower cost. With HS2 it
is all pain, for no gain.
"The Midland Mainline improvements could also be bringing economic benefits to our region within
the next couple of years - while HS2 is decades away."
Their call for continued investment in the Midland Mainline was supported by the leaders of seven
district councils in Leicestershire, who were meeting with the city and county council today to
discuss proposals to create a combined authority to work together to achieve more economic growth
in the region.
