েম্বর োনক। আপোরা নেনিই ো঵ন঱ এর গুরুত্ব বুঝনে পারনেে।
Sentence correction এর নেয়ম গুন঱া পড়ন঱ আ঴া কনর নবনভন্ন পরীক্ষায় ভা঱ ফ঱াফ঱ করনে
পারনব ইেলাআল্লাহ্।
Identify the correct sentence. (DU-04-05)
(a) She took pictures, and I did so.
(b) She took pictures, and so I did.
(c) She took pictures, and I did also.
(d) She took pictures, and I did the same.

1. দ্ুই বা েনোনিক Subject ‘and’ দ্বারা যুক্ত ঵ন঱ verb plural ঵নব।
Incorrect- Jannat and Rupa is good girls.
Correct- Jannat and Rupa are good girls.
নকন্তু and দ্বারা যুক্ত Subject গুন঱া যখে ঴মনিভানব অেণ প্রকাল করনব নকংবা একই বযনক্তনক
বুঝানব, েখে verb এর Singular Number ঵নব।
Incorrect- Fifty miles are a good distance.
Correct- Fifty miles is a good distance.

2. নকন্তু Subject গুন঱ার প্রনেযকনির পূনবণ যনদ্ The োনক েনব আ঱াদ্া বযনক্তনক বুঝানব। য঴ যক্ষনে
verb plural ঵নব।
Incorrect- The principal and secretary are not present.
Correct- The principal and the secretary are not present.
2. Antecedent- এর possessive form ‘s’ নদ্নয় ো কনর ‘of’ নদ্নয় করনে ঵য়।
Incorrect- I like Kazi Nazrul's poems who is a great poet.
Correct- I like the poem’s of Kazi Nazrul who is a great poet.
3. Plural Subject যখে যকাে যদ্ল, বই বা অেয নকেুর োম ঵য় েখে verb singular ঵নব।
Incorrect- The Germany are a prosperous country.
Correct- The Germany is a prosperous country.
4. উনচে বা কেণবয অনেণ Should এবং অভযা঴, ঴ংকল্প ঑ অেুেয় যবাঝানে Would বযবহৃে ঵য়।
(a) োেনদ্র নলক্ষকনদ্র আনদ্ল পা঱ে করা উনচে-- The students should obey their
teachers.
(b) খন঱ফা ঑মর (রাাঃ) েদ্মনবনল যবর ঵নেে-- The Caliph Omar (R) would go out in
disguise.
5. যনদ্ একনি Singular এবং একনি plural Subject, either---or, neither---nor দ্বারা যুক্ত
঵য় ো঵ন঱ plural Subject নি পনর ব঴নব এবং verb নি঑ plural ঵নব।
Incorrect- Neither the stars nor the moon was visible.
Correct- Neither the moon nor the stars were visible.
6. And দ্বারা যুক্ত Singular noun- এর প্রনেযকনির পূনবণ যনদ্ each, every নকংবা no োনক
েনব verb singular ঵নব। নকন্তু no বা not দ্বারা যুক্ত sentence নির প্রেম subject অেু঴ানর
verb ব঴নব।

3. Incorrect- Each man and each woman were present.
Correct- Each man and each woman was present.
7. একানিক Subject-- as well as, along with, together with, In addition to ইেযানদ্
দ্বারা যুক্ত ঵ন঱ প্রেম Subject অেুযায়ী verb singular অেবা plural ঵নব।
Incorrect- The boy as well as the girls were singing.
Correct- The boy as well as the girls was singing.
Incorrect- The girls as well as the boy was singing.
Correct- The girls as well as the boy were singing.
8. Cousin, orphan, Cattle, Children, pupil, Person, neighbor ইেযানদ্ Common
gender ন঵঴ানব বযবহৃে ঵য়।
ন঵রার অনেক চাচাে ভাই-যবাে আনে-- Hira has many cousins.
9. Much, More, little, less ইেযানদ্ subject ঵ন঱ Verb-নি singular ঵য়।
Incorrect- More than decade have passed.
Correct- More than decade has passed.
10. Relative pronoun- এর antecedent অেুযায়ী verb ঵য়। Relative pronoun ঴ািারর্ে
োর antecedent এর পনরই বন঴। (নবনভন্ন Person এর যনদ্ দ্ুনি antecedent োনক েনব
relative pronoun এর নেকিবেণী antecedent- এর ঴ানে নম঱ রাখনব)
Incorrect- It is you who is to blame.
Correct- It is you who are to blame.
11. ভগ্াংনলর যক্ষনে একাংল (One) োড়া ঴ব যক্ষনে Verb plural ঵য়, ো দ্বারা ঴ংখযা যবাঝায়,
নকন্তু পনরমার্ যবাঝান঱ Verb-নি singular ঵য়।
Incorrect- One thirds of the workers were present.

4. Correct- One third of the workers were present.
Incorrect- Two third of the workers were present.
Correct- Two thirds of the workers were present.
12. যকাে sentence- এর Subject ন঵ন঴নব one বযবহৃে ঵ন঱ োর পনরবনেণ he বা him ো
বন঴নয় one এবং his ো বন঴নয় one’s ব঴ানে ঵য়।
Incorrect- One does not know where he will live.
Correct- One does not know where one will live.
13. যখে and দ্বারা যুক্ত নবনভন্ন person এর pronoun যকাে Sentence এ subject ন঵ন঴নব
োনক এবং good sense প্রকাল পায়, েখে second person+ third person+ first person
঵নব। অেণাৎ আমরা ঴ংনক্ষনপ 231 ব঱নে পানর। খারাপ বা যদ্া঳ বুঝানে 123 ঵নব।
Incorrect- He, you and I are invited.
Correct- You, he and I are invited.
14. Please, see, feel, hear, make, bid, know প্রভৃ নে verb এর active voice-এ
infinitive-এর য঱াপ পায় এবং Had rather, had better, had sooner প্রভৃ নে phrase এর
পনর নকংবা but, except, than ইেযানদ্র পনর infinitive-এর য঱াপ পায়।
Incorrect- The teacher want to make the students to understand the story.
Correct- The teacher wants to make the students understand the story.
15. Let এর পনর Objective case-এর pronoun বন঴।
Incorrect- Let he sit down.
Correct- Let him sit down.
16. নেনমাক্ত Verb গুন঱ার পর Reflexive Pronoun বন঴। যযমে- Avail, enjoy, Pride,
Exert, Absent etc.

5. Incorrect- Hira absented from the meeting.
Correct- Hira absented himself from the meeting.
17. নকেু noun আনে যযমে- news, gallows, innings, mathematics, politics, physics,
machines প্রভৃ নে plural form ঵ন঱঑ singular veb ব঴নব।
Incorrect- Physics are a good subject.

18. Active voice-এ বযবহৃে Reflexive object-যক Passive voice-এর subject ন঵ন঴নব
বযব঵ার করা যায় ো।
Incorrect- Himself was killed by him.
Correct- He was killed by himself.
19. Each, either, neither subject- এর পূনবণ ব঴ন঱ verb singular ঵নব।
Incorrect- Either of them are guilty.
Correct- Either of them is guilty.
20. Adjective যখে noun যক qualify কনর েখে article এর পূনবণ বন঴।
Incorrect- My brother is doctor.
Correct- My brother is a doctor.
21. All, both, such, many, half, what প্রভৃ নে যকাে noun যক qualify করন঱ article
ইেযানদ্র পূনবণ ো বন঴ পনর বন঴।
Incorrect- The both girls are equally clever.
Correct- Both the girls are equally clever.
Incorrect- He spent the all money.

6. Correct- He spent all the money.
22. As, so, how, too প্রভৃ নে adverb যকাে adjective যক modify করন঱ য঴ই adjective
এর পনর article বন঴।
Incorrect- He is as a cunning man as a fox.
Correct- He is as cunning a man as a fox.
23. ‘ior’ যুক্ত (নযমে- Senior, junior, Prior, inferior, superior, interior) প্রভৃ নে
adjective এর পর to বন঴ than েয়।
Incorrect- He is senior than me.
Correct- He is senior to me.
24. ঴ম্ভাবো ঑ নলিাচার বুঝানে Present Tense এর ঴ানে Might এবং Future Tense-এর
঴ানে Might have বন঴।
(a) েু নম একবার যচিা কনর যদ্খনে পার-- You might try once.
(b) য঴ যোমার ঴ানে যযনে পারে-- He might have gone with you.
25. From যকাে ঴ুনেনদ্ণি ঴মনয়র পূনবণ বন঴।
Incorrect- The Degree Examination will begin since the 10th June.
Correct- The Degree Examination will begin from the 10th June.
26. যকাে ঴ুনেনদ্ণি point of time এর ঴ানে by বন঴ এবং period of time এর ঴ানে within
বযবহৃে ঵য়।

7. 27. ঴ািারর্ে Equal, unanimous, Universal, Unique, golden, Perfect, Ideal, Chief
etc. এর Comparative ঑ Superlative degree ঵য় ো Adjective গুন঱া ঴ব঴ময় Positive
degree ন঵ন঴নবই বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- Socrates followed most ideal way of life.
Correct- Socrates followed an ideal way of life.
Incorrect- This is a most unique opportunity.
Correct- This is a unique opportunity.
28. লব্দ঴মূন঵র মনিয যযাগানযাগ ঴ৃনির উনেনলয not only---but also বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- Not only he is weak in English but also in Bengali.
Correct- He is weak not only in English but also in Bengali.
29. ঴ন঵াদ্র ভাই/নবােনদ্র মনিয বনয়ানিািয যবাঝানে elder নকন্তু বড় িানে ভাই যবাঝানে older
বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- The name of my older brother is Mainul Haque.
Correct- The name of my elder brother is Mainul Haque.
30. Since বযবহৃে ঵য় point of time-এর পূনবণ এবং for বযবহৃে ঵য় period of time এর
পূনবণ।
Incorrect- He has been ill since seven days.
Correct- He has been ill for seven days.
Incorrect- I have been here for Sunday last.
Correct- I have been here since Sunday last.
31. ঴ংখযা বুঝানে Many এবং পনরমার্ বুঝানে Much লব্দনি বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- Hira has much shops.

32. Preposition যযমে- with, by, to এর পনর objective case-এর pronoun বন঴।
Incorrect- He came with I.
Correct- He came with me.
33. ভনব঳যৎ অেণ যবাঝানে ‘In’ এবং অেীে অেণ যবাঝানে after বন঴।
Incorrect- Hira will return home after a year.
Correct- Hira will return home in a year.
34. আমরা ঴ািারর্ে Positive degree এর পূনবণ Very এবং Comparative degree এর পূনবণ
Much বন঴নয় োনক।
Incorrect- She is very better today.
Correct- She is much better today.
Incorrect- She is much good today.
Correct- She is very good today.
35. Enough যবাঝানে Very much বন঴ এবং ো Adjective ঑ Participle এর পূনবণ বন঴।
যেমনে Too much, Noun যক qualify কনর, এবং ‘Much too’ Adverb যক Modify কনর।
Incorrect- Mainul has very much eagerness for his study.
Correct- Mainul has too much eagerness for his study.
36. দ্ুই বা দ্ুই এর অনিক Noun যনদ্ যযৌে Possession বুঝায়, েখে যকব঱ মাে যল঳ Noun
নির পনর possessive এর নচহ্ন ব঴ানে ঵য়।
Incorrect- Hira's and Arman shop.
Correct- Hira and Arman’s shop.

9. 37. নকন্তু Noun গুন঱া যনদ্ নভন্ন নভন্ন Possession যবাঝায় েনব প্রনেযকনি Noun-এর পরই
Apostrophe (’) নচহ্ন বন঴।
Incorrect- Hira and Akash's poems.
Correct- Hira’s and Akash’s poems.
38. দ্ুনি Singular Subject যনদ্ either---or, neither---nor দ্বারা যুক্ত ঵য় েখে verb
singular ঵নব।
Incorrect- Either a pen or a pencil are wanted.
Correct- Either a pen or a pencil is wanted.
39. Fewer ঴ংখযা এবং Less পনরমার্ যবাঝানে বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- No fewer than 10000 kgs of wheat was allotted.
Correct- No less than 10000 kgs of wheat was allotted.
40. And, But, yet and still দ্বারা যুক্তবানকযর Subject গুন঱ার যকােনি যনদ্ singular ঵য়, েনব
োর Auxiliary verb নি঑ singular ঵য় এবং যকােনি যনদ্ Plural ঵য় ো঵ন঱ োর Auxiliary
verb নি঑ plural ঵য়।
Incorrect- Nine candidates appeared but selected.
Correct- Nine candidates appeared but one was selected.
41. Participle বা Adjective-যক বানকযর ঴ানে ঴ম্পকণ঵ীে অবস্থায় ব঴ানো ভু ঱।
Incorrect- Though much tired, still he can work for an hour.
Correct- Though he is very much tired, still he can work for an hour.
42. Main sentence এর subject এর ঴ানে Participle এর ঴ম্পকণ োকা বাঞ্ছেীয়। নকন্তু
কখে঑ কখে঑ বযনেক্রম ঘিনে যদ্খা যায়।
Incorrect- Going to the station, his pocket was picked.

10. Correct- On his way to station, his pocket was picked.
43. Neuter/Link verb- Look, seem, appear, feel ইেযানদ্র ঴ানে Adverb এর পনরবনেণ
Adjective বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- She looks smartly.
Correct- She looks smart.
44. এনকর অনিক Noun নেনয় Compound Noun গনিে ঵য়। েব গনিে Compound Noun
এর মনিয যযনি প্রিাে, এর ঴ানে Plural sign-নি বন঴।
Incorrect- The old sailor watched the passer-by walking past him.
Correct- The old sailor watched the passers-by walking past him.
45. Present Participle এর পূনবণ Very বন঴ এবং ো Adjective-যক Modify কনর নকন্তু
Much Past Participle-এর পূনবণ বন঴ এবং Comparative degree এর Adjective-যক
Modify কনর।
Incorrect- The work was much encouraging yet Mainul was very disgusted with
it.
Correct- The work was very encouraging yet Mainul was much disgusted with

46. Ought to কেণবয ঑ খুব যবনল নেশ্চয়ো বুঝানে বযবহৃে ঵য়। Past tense ঵ন঱ Ought to
এর পর have ব঴ানে ঵য়।
(a) আমানদ্র নপো-মাোনক যদ্খাশুো করা উনচে-- We ought to look after our parents.
(b) এ বযাপানর যোমার আনগই আমানক নচনি য঱খা উনচে নে঱-- You ought to have already
written to me.
47. One of-এর পনর plural noun ঑ singular verb বন঴।
Incorrect- He is one of the good player.

48. দ্ুইনয়র যক্ষনে each other আর দ্ুইনয়র অনিনকর যক্ষনে one another বযবহৃে ঵য়।
Incorrect- The two boys love one another.

49. One এর Possessive রূপ One’s ঵য়। One এর পূনবণ every, no বা any বা Noun
োকন঱ োনদ্র possessive রূপ his বা her ঵য়।
কানরা ঴ময় েি করা উনচে েয়-- One should not waste one's time.
50. Phrase এর অনচেে পদ্ােণবাচক Noun এর যলন঳ ‘s’ যযাগ কনর Possessive করনে ঵য়।
কন঱নির ন঵঴াব আমার েখ দ্পণনর্-- The accounts of the college is at my finger's end.
51. Here, There, Now, Never, Thus, so, same, such প্রভৃ নে নদ্নয় Assertive sentence
শুরু ঵ন঱ Subject এর পূনবণ Verb বন঴।
এই যয যোমার ঵ারানো মানেক-- Here is your lost son.
এই যো িীবে-- Such is life.
52. যিার প্রকাল করনে অনেক ঴ময় Subject-এর পূনবণ Verb বন঴।

যোমার ঴ফ঱োর খবর যিনে আমার নক যয আেন্দ ঵নয়নে঱-- Great was my joy to hear

আনম অবলযই যাব-- Go I must.

53. Order লব্দনি দ্বারা যখে আনদ্ল যবাঝানো ঵য়, েখে ো ঴বণদ্া plural ঵য়।
Incorrect- The Ministry of Education has passed order for the college authority.

54. Country, Moon, ship, spring, river, nature প্রভৃ নেনক Feminine এবং sun, death,
summer প্রভৃ নেনক Masculine ন঵ন঴নব গর্য করা ঵য়।
চাাঁনদ্র নেনির আন঱া যেই-- The moon has no light of her its own.
঴ূযণ ঴ক঱নকই আন঱া যদ্য়-- The sun gives his light on all.
55. বাং঱ায় অনেক ঴ময় নবনল঳র্ ঑ নবনল঳যনক দ্ুবার বযব঵ার কনর Plural করা ঵য়। ইংনরনিনে
Plural-এর যব঱ায় এ িরনের যকাে নেয়ম যেই।
গানে োো ফু ঱ ফু নি-- Flowers bloom on trees.
56. ঴ািারর্ে Material Noun এর পূনবণ Article বন঴ ো নকন্তু নেনদ্ণি কনর বুঝান঱ োর পূনবণ
the বন঴।
Incorrect- I like tea of Sreemanghal.

57. People, Cattle, Parliament, Mankind, Government প্রভৃ নে Collective Noun এর
পূনবণ ঴ািারর্ে Article বন঴ ো নকন্তু নেনদ্ণি কনর বুঝান঱ োর পূনবণ the বন঴।
য঱ানকরা ঴ািারর্ে এরূপ বন঱-- People generally say so.
58. ঴ািারর্ে Abstract Noun এর পূনবণ যকাে Article বন঴ ো নকন্তু নেনদ্ণি কনর যকাে বযনক্ত বা
বস্তুর গুে বা অবস্থা বুঝান঱ োর পূনবণ Article বন঴।
Incorrect- Who does not know greatness of Omar?

59. ঴ািারর্ে Consonant-এর পূনবণ a এবং vowel এর পূনবণ an বন঴। নকন্তু Consonant-এর
উচ্চারর্ Vowel এর মে ঵ন঱ োর পূনবণ an বন঴ এবং Vowel এর উচ্চারর্ ইউ এর মে ঵ন঱
োর পূনবণ a বন঴।

13. Incorrect- The old man has a heir.
Correct- The old man has an heir.
60. Possessive-এর অেণ প্রকাল করনে অনেক ঴ময় Singular common Noun-এর পূনবণ the
বযব঵ার ঵য়।
নলক্ষক োর কাে িনর িােন঱ে-- The teacher pulled him by the ear.
61. Abstract Noun এর অেণ প্রকাল করনে Singular common Noun-এর পূনবণ the বযব঵ার
঵য়।
Incorrect- Mother in the woman arose.
Correct- The mother in the woman arose.
62. Common Noun Apposition or Compliment রূনপ বযবহৃে ঵নয়, rank, position,
occupation বুঝায় েনব োর পূনবণ Article বন঴ ো। আবার যনদ্ Common Noun, Proper
Noun এর title অেবা Adjective রূনপ বযবহৃে ঵য় েনব োর পূনবণ঑ Article বন঴ ো।
Incorrect- He was the Principle of this College.
Correct- He was Principle of this College.
63. যকাে বানকয বযবহৃে Correlative Conjunction এর পর একই িােীয় Parts of speech
বা Clause বন঴।
Incorrect- Akash was as clever like his brother.
Correct- Akash was as clever as his brother.
64. পনরবানরর োম, অনেনদ্ণি কাউনক উনল্লখ করনে এবং ঴াদ্ৃলয বুঝানে Proper Noun-এর পূনবণ
a বা an বন঴।

14. 65. যকাে বানকয Subject-এর পর had better ব঴ন঱ োর পরবেণী verb-এর past participle
ো ঵নয় Present Indefinite form ঵য়।
Incorrect- He had better left this place.
Correct- He had better leave this place.
66. Die-এ Verb নির পর Preposition ‘of’ ব঴ন঱ যরানগ মারা ঑ ‘for’ যকাে নকেুর িেয মারা,
‘by’ দ্ুঘণিো, অপঘানে বা ইচ্ছাকৃ েভানব মরা এবং ‘from’ ক্ষু িায় মারা যা঑য়া বুঝায়।
(a) He died of cancer.
(b) We are ready to die for our country.
(c) He died by suicide.
(d) He died from over eating.
67. Adjective, whole-এর পূনবণ the-এর পনর of বন঴।
Incorrect- The whole cake was eaten up by him.

68. Superlative Degree-এর পূনবণ the বন঴।

69. Past Tense-এর form োড়া঑ Used-verb-নি অভযস্থ অনেণ ‘to’ বন঴।
Incorrect- My father used get up early in the morning.

70. নেননাক্ত Adjective- Excellent, Perfect, Absolute, Unique, Extreme, Chief,
Preferable, Full, Round, entire, ideal, Square, Complete, Universal- গুন঱ার যক্ষনে
অেয লব্দ বযব঵ার কনর যিার যদ্঑য়ার প্রনয়ািে ঵য় ো।

15. Incorrect- This is the most unique opportunity.

71. Earlier এর আনগ ঑ পনর the বন঴।

72. প্রনমাদ্ স্থাে- Cinema, theatre-এর আনগ the ব঴ানে ঵য়।

16. 76. Man অনেণ বযবহৃে ো ঵ন঱ নেনন঱নখে Noun-গুন঱ার যলন঳ s যযাগ কনর plural form করা
঵য়—German, Roman, Musalman, Brahman etc. ।
Incorrect- The ancient Roman were very lawful.

77. Arm, Colour, Circumstance, Effect, minute, Moral, Premise, Quarter,
Spectacle, Part, Manner, Custom, Pain, Number—Noun গুন঱ার Plural form একনি
নকন্তু দ্ু’নি অনেণ প্রকাল কনর।

78. Abuse, Horse, Foot, Force, Issue, Light, people, Powder, practice —Noun
গুন঱ার Singular form এ দ্ুনি অেণ নকন্তু Plural এ একনি অেণ প্রকাল কনর।
(a) য঴ োর ঴রকানর ক্ষমোর অপবযব঵ার কনরনে঱-- He abused his official power.
(b) য঴ আমানক অকারনর্ নেরস্কার কনরনে঱-- He abused me for nothing.
