Microstomia, characterized by an abnormally small oral aperture, presents significant challenges in prosthodontic treatment, including limited access for examination, difficulties in impression making, and challenges with prosthesis insertion and removal. To manage these issues, customized impression techniques using sectional trays and elastomeric materials are employed. Prostheses may be designed in segments or with flexible materials to facilitate handling. Minimally invasive procedures and the use of digital technologies can enhance patient comfort. Education and training for patients on prosthesis care and maintenance are crucial for compliance. Regular follow-up and a multidisciplinary approach, involving collaboration with other specialists, ensure comprehensive care and improved quality of life for microstomia patients.

Normal blood pressure is usually between 90/60 mmHg and 120/80 mmHg, but pressures below 90/60 are generally considered hypotensive.

2. Asian Health Services
What year was your organization
founded or what year was your
HIV program created (or both)?
What is a current program or
project at your organization that
you are most excited about?
What was one flagship
program/project/historical
moment that your organization is
known for?
What is one thing you love most
about working with your team?
Founded in 1974, Asian Health
Services (AHS) provides advocacy
and linguistic and cultural
competency for the Asian
American and Asian immigrant
communities accessing healthcare
in Alameda County. AHS started
seeing its first patient living with
HIV in 1993, and this is when our
HIV program began. Fun fact, this
patient is still our patient!
In 2020 the HIV program hired our
first staff from our patient
community, and since then we
have hired three additional former
patients. Providing these
opportunities has been of
enormous benefit to our HIV
program. To be able to learn from
our former patients, now leaders,
has been pivotal in the long-term
growth of our program, and we
could not be more humbled to
continue this practice alongside
traditional recruitment strategies.
We are very excited to continue to
expand our viral hepatitis services,
including case management for
patients seeking or on treatment
for hepatitis C and patients that
are treatment-eligible for hepatitis
B. Viral hepatitis disproportionately
impacts the Asian immigrant
population in the United States,
and it is a natural extension of our
HIV services.
The thing that I think everyone on
our HIV team loves most is the
team-environment. Our team is
truly like a little family. We all bring
so many different experiences that
we are coming from, and no one
hesitates to ask for help or
feedback on whatever project they
are working on or challenge they
are trying to overcome. Thank you
Alex, Eris, Victor, D’Yale, Cam,
Jason, Han, Chris, and Lexi!

neighboring faith-based
communities to the growing
crisis of homelessness in
Contra Costa County,
A current project that Hope
Solutions is working on is
Housing Development. Efforts.
For Hope Village, which is to
create low cost affordable
homes in Walnut Creek
and Antioch. These are six
Cottages being built on land
owned by Churches.
Hope Solutions is the Heart of
Housing and Services . It is
known for Quality Permanent

reliance.

about working with my HOPWA
Team is that everyone has a
role and plays an important part
in making sure that those who
need homes are housed, those
who need to know about
resources in the Community
are provided with the
information and those who
need medical care are
receiving
treatment.

We have been doing this work
since 2019. Our organization
Somos Familia was founded by
two moms from the East Bay
(San Francisco Bay Area) with
Latino gay and bisexual sons in
2007 to reach out to other
families.
We started the first trans
Latinx/Latine support group for
trans men in Spanish in 2019 in
Oakland, that we know off.
Gathering of Diverse Families
Conference. It will be a weekend
full of community, dialogue, and
training. We believe that Latine
families have the power to be
fierce advocates for the LGBTQ+
community and we want to share
our resources to create a safer
future.
That in reality we are a family,
the family many of us wished
we had, with healthy
communication, respect and we
care for each other as chosen
family.

Our organization

nation and the only jail in
California to have an OTP
program. MAT falls under the
OTP program.
Assisting patients with
Medi-CAL enrollment prior to
their release date. We have an
HIV provider who focuses on
HIV/Transgender/Hep C
patients. Our team continues to
expand, working and
collaborating with ACSO and
AFBH re-entry services.
Working with incarcerated
individuals requires a special
type of character due to such a
vulnerable population. Our
team also enjoys our great
partnership with the HIV
community partners whom we
can call upon to assist with
patient’s needs.
