2. Stranger things
• Within stranger things the typical conventions include the use of
low-key lighting throughout the episode to hyperbolize the
horror/ sci-fi theme. The editor Dean Zimmerman uses a
dramatic red font with a serif style to demonstrate the classical
sci-fi style whilst also meeting many of the criteria for horror.
Throughout the opening scene the fast-paced music mirror's the
tension throughout the scene therefore it dramatizes the episode
which is representative of the hybrid series style. The mise en
scene throughout is very stereotypical for example the white lab
coat which fits the experimentative and fictional world which
the show is set in.

3. Wednesday
• Within the opening scene of Wednesday, a common
convention used throughout is the birds eye view which is
used to deconstruct the setting to the audience and help
make them aware about what is going on within the scene.
Personally, I think this feature is very effective because it
easily establishes the scene. Furthermore, another common
convention is the use of a flashback which is very common
along with other sci-fi shows. Within my final piece I would
like to use a flashback as it is easy to film however its very
effective as it gives the audience a wider understanding
about a characters past and can help foreshadow what is
going to happen in the future.

• The Umbrella Academy
Within the episode, mise en scene was very
important as it juxtaposed the stereotypical
conventions seen within other sci-fi
programmes. Within the opening scene the
characters were all wearing swim wear
however it matched the setting well and
established the scene well for the audience.
However, the mise en scene was used too
establish the hierachal importance of certain
characters within the show for example the
swim instructor was fully clothed however
wearing bold goggles creating him to be a
mysterious character from the first 30 seconds
of the show.
