Using Postman to Test OAuth/OIDC
In this talk, I will be covering the story of my team's adoption of Postman—from QA to development to customer-facing documentation. I will cover how PingIdentity's use of convenience methods in tests make working with our REST API more convenient. I will also cover advanced use of imported Node modules to manually step through the OAuth/OIDC process and how Postman Environment usage helps us manage credentials and tokens and standardize service collections to build out automated tests.
Troubleshooting EC2- Linux Server Configuration
The user is unable to access their EC2 Linux server from a Windows machine using Putty. The server has a public IP address assigned but connection is not possible. The issue was likely an inactive internet gateway not attached to the VPC. Creating and attaching an internet gateway resolved the problem, allowing Putty connection to the server using the public IP for authentication with the ec2-user username.

The Big Picture: Monitoring and Orchestration of Your Microservices Landscape...

A company’s business processes typically span more than one microservice. In an e-commerce company, for example, a customer order might involve microservices for payments, inventory, shipping and more. Implementing long-running, asynchronous and complex collaboration of distributed microservices is challenging. How can we ensure visibility of cross-microservice flows and provide status and error monitoring? How do we guarantee that overall flows always complete, even if single services fail? Or, how do we at least recognize stuck flows so that we can fix them?
In this talk, I’ll demonstrate an approach based on real-life projects using the open source workflow engine zeebe.io to orchestrate microservices. Zeebe can connect to Kafka to coordinate workflows that span many microservices, providing end-to-end process visibility without violating the principles of loose coupling and service independence. Once an orchestration flow starts, Zeebe ensures that it is eventually carried out, retrying steps upon failure. In a Kafka architecture, Zeebe can easily produce events (or commands) and subscribe to events that will be correlated to workflows. Along the way, Zeebe facilitates monitoring and visibility into the progress and status of orchestration flows. Internally, Zeebe works as a distributed, event-driven and event-sourced system, making it not only very fast but horizontally scalable and fault tolerant—and able to handle the throughput required to operate alongside Kafka in a microservices architecture. Expect not only slides but also fun little live-hacking sessions and real-life stories.

In a Kafka architecture, Zeebe can easily produce events (or commands) and subscribe to events that will be correlated to workflows. Along the way, Zeebe facilitates monitoring and visibility into the progress and status of orchestration flows. Internally, Zeebe works as a distributed, event-driven and event-sourced system, making it not only very fast but horizontally scalable and fault tolerant—and able to handle the throughput required to operate alongside Kafka in a microservices architecture. With microservices (or serverless functions) whole architectures are cut into smaller pieces that are ideally loosely coupled. In this talk I will discuss what this means for business processes that typically span more than one microservice. I will tackle questions like: How can we ensure visibility of cross-microservice flows and provide status and error monitoring? How do we guarantee that overall flows always complete, even if single services fail? How can do this without introducing tight coupling or harming service autonomy? What does this mean for your architecture and the role of workflow automation technology within it?

Design Time Validation for the Correct Execution of BPMN Collaborations
Cloud-based Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) providers want to grow into the space of business process outsourc-ing (BPO). BPO refers to the systematic and controlled delegation of many steps of a company’s business pro-cess. BPO is a new and important extension to SaaS, as it allows the provider to add more value in the onlineapplication services and as it enables the outsourcer to obtain more cost efficiency. BPO results in decen-tralized federated workflows. To describe these workflows, companies often use business process modelinglanguages. Currently, Business Process Modeling Notation (BPMN) is one of the best-known standards. It iscrucial to ascertain that the modeled workflow is executed as intended. Errors that happen during executionof a federated workflow can come with huge costs. Validating the model is limited to syntactical checks andthere is little support for validating the execution at design time. In this paper a method is presented to validatethe correct execution of BPMN 2.0 Collaborations. The methods in this research use concepts from virtualtime previously described for Web Services Choreography Description Language (WS-CDL). To validate theresults of this research, the Eclipse BPMN modeler was extended with an implementation of the validationmethod.
