This document discusses a plan to reduce CO2 emissions from container transport between the Netherlands and Iceland by eliminating empty container miles. Currently, empty containers are picked up in Rotterdam and driven to suppliers in countries like Germany before being filled and shipped to Iceland. The new plan proposes loading full containers at an Essers terminal near suppliers to cut out the empty leg of the journey, saving on costs and emissions for importers in Iceland as well as generating new revenue for Essers.
