Curious if you can concealed carry in a bar? What are some general tips and tricks? Alien Gear Holsters presents Concealed Carry and Alcohol to help with your day to day carry.
2. Alcohol and
Concealed Carry
First off, being in a bar
doesn’t suddenly
revoke your right to
defend yourself.
However, there are
state laws to be aware
of when concealed
carrying and partying
3. State Legislation
As an example, Michigan explicitly states it is
illegal to consume alcohol and possess a
concealed firearm on your person or in your
vehicle.
Alabama on the other hand, allows you to
concealed carry in a restaurant that serves
alcohol though you are not allowed to
imbibe.
Violating this legislation is grounds to have
your permit revoked. In almost every single
case, this has been historically true.
4. Allowing CCW in Bars
Most states disallow concealed carry in any establishment
that serves alcohol. There’s a few gray areas, where states
have the issuing authority but a county may revoke.
There are a few concerns, one of which is just because you
follow the law and don’t concealed carry inside a disallowed
establishment doesn’t mean someone else won’t.
5. Close Quarters
Defense
The average concealed
carrier is not a Spec Ops
soldier. Odds are, they
aren’t trained in low-light
environments and a
multitude of warfare.
For all intents and
purposes, the average
concealed carrier has a few
days at the range a week
and practices draw from
their holster.
6. Have concealed carriers stopped shooters in
bars before?
It should come as no surprise
that they have. Generally,
just follow these guidelines:
• Be sober
• Take cover
• Aim judiciously
• Attempt to get others to
safety
Ultimately, it is your call to
draw or not
7. The Rowdy Drunk: just
walk away
Folks overindulge, it’s just the
way things are. Some tend to
get aggressive and cause
unnecessary violence. As a
concealed carrier, your job is to
protect you & yours, not get
caught up with someone else’s
issues.
8. Spot for Cover
As every concealed carrier is drilled on over and over again,
situational awareness. Knowing where to take cover in order
to return fire or escape in a moment’s notice may save not
only your life, but others as well.
Most concealed carriers train by standing in the open and
shooting a target, often referred to as “lane mentality,” which
can turn lethal at a moment’s notice
9. Enough is
enough
There’s only one necessary skill for
this: good judgement.
If things are starting to degrade or
your gut is telling you to be wary,
it is better to be safe and head
home than stick around and get
caught up in a situation that may
cause you to lose your permit.
In this scenario, you’re not
retreating. You’re simply
advancing in another direction
