This document discusses the history and evolution of computer-assisted language learning (CALL). It describes CALL as a tool that uses computers to facilitate bidirectional and individualized language learning. The document then outlines three phases of CALL: behavioral CALL from the 1950s-1970s focused on repetitive drills; communicative CALL from the 1970s-1980s emphasized authentic communication; and integrative CALL currently uses multimedia like hypermedia to integrate reading, writing, speaking and listening skills while focusing on content and language form.
