The list of questions I would ask the college would be the following:

What type of program do they offer a disabled person in a wheel chair?

What is the minimum GPA score accepted into this college?

What type of resources would be provided to this client such as staff support?

How long are the classes?

Are there any other students who are disabled attending that college?

What is the overall rate of success in that college for a disabled person?

Is there security at the college?

What is the crime rate?

Is there handicapped accessibility?

Is there testing support available?

How many students to a class?

Are there mechanics available for wheel cheer repair?

What type of student clubs are available?

Are elevators available?

Are there wheel chairs available for students?

What type of financial aid is offered?

Is there special parking available?

What is the bus schedule for students?

When it comes to taking a tour of the college the things I would look for would

include the following: First, I would observe the atmosphere of the college focusing on

how the students are. Secondly I would look for water fountain access and make sure

they are at standard height for a wheel chair. Thirdly, I would check out the parking lot

making sure that there is access for student parking and observe where the bus drops the

student off and what access the student has from the bus drop off. Finally, I would glance

at the actual class room sizes and see what type of environment the client will be in

including access to utensils since the client wants to get involved with culinary arts.

In conclusion, one must understand person with a disability is one whose personhood has

a primary role. If you have a client who has a disability, you should understand that a part

of what the person is experiencing is a disability. You should look at such clients in the

context of their social systems and their functioning in each of the systems. You should

consider all the ways in which a disability influences each of the social systems. You

should also look at individual development and the societal expectations for

developmental tasks at any particular stage — such as adulthood, early marriage, and

parenthood — that give meaning to the individual’s overall functioning, (Argosy

University, 2010).
