This document summarizes Methodist churches in Western North Carolina that were organized or merged in 1868 and 1918. In 1868, the Methodist Episcopal Church sent missionaries to North Carolina after the Civil War, forming predominantly African-American and Caucasian congregations. This resulted in new congregations being formed in what is now the WNC Annual Conference from the Methodist Episcopal Church, Methodist Episcopal Church South, and Methodist Protestant Church. Several churches are listed as being organized in 1868. In 1918, two additional churches (Maylo UMC and Warrensville UMC) were organized.
