Ezemvelo Nature Reserve is a 4,500 hectare reserve an hour from Johannesburg that offers spectacular scenery along the Wilge River including cliffs, rock formations, and the only ancient rock paintings open to the public in Gauteng. It is home to over 2,400 wild animals across 33 species and 300 bird species. Prominent conservationists Nicky and Strilli Oppenheimer donated the land to promote environmental education, develop an eco-campus, and encourage eco-tourism. Activities include game drives, hiking, fishing, and horseback safaris.
