The Comanche Indians lived in areas including the Great Plains, California, Canada, France, and Kansas. They hunted buffalo with spears and used horses for transportation and hunting. The chief of the tribe had a special feathered staff used in ceremonies. They lived in teepees made of animal skins or hides. The Comanche language is similar to Shoshone but less mutually intelligible due to consonant changes. Efforts are being made to preserve the endangered Comanche language spoken by elderly members of the tribe.
