People use colour in various ways in India. Colours are used to indicate social status and occupations - priests, warriors and merchants each have distinguishing colours. Bright colours are also worn to add vibrancy as much of India has a brown landscape. People respond differently to different colours - children are drawn to bright reds, oranges and yellows while thugs congregate in dark places. Traffic lights use colours like red and green to control traffic flow and warriors' turban colours demand certain responses. Colour plays an important role in Indian culture, religion and as a means of expression.
