The dxw team is working with the Planning Advisory Service (PAS) and MHCLG on a 6-week alpha project to test ideas for extracting and standardizing data from local development plans. In the first week, they reviewed discovery work and local plan examples, mapped the plan-making domain, and will test an "index card" approach with local authorities. Next steps include prototyping a webpage to present standardizes policy information and testing this prototype with users to inform further development. The goal is to explore establishing a common language and data standards for local plans across authorities.
Mauricio Manhães: Three Overarching Perspectives for Service Design
Over the last two decades, service design has steadily attracted adopters from both practitioner and academic realms. The diverse origins of these adopters pose challenges for the further advancement of the discipline. To address one of those challenges, an automated text analysis technique was used to identify discursive elements of service design practitioners’ narrative to address organizational change. The findings identified three basins of meaning in the discursive construction of service design practitioners: STORIES, TEAM, and IMPLEMENTING. It also identified a strong lack of consistency of service design discursive elements regarding implementation.

From Card Sort to Redesigned Intranet Site: A Success Story
This is a case study describing how we moved an intranet that was not working for its employees into a successful website.
The objectives were to "lead with the need,' to determine how current employees want their information organized and what should be emphasized first. Our goals were to redesign the intranet site, focusing on the navigation and organization (overall information architecture); make the site usable; especially when it comes to finding things; and to make the site attractive and understandable to employees.
A card sort seemed the best solution because we had 2 sites that needed to be unified and that had grown too small for the additional information that kept getting added year in and year out. We had an IA that wasn’t working, and we wanted to discover how employees – the principal users of the site – wanted their information organized.
We chose a open card sort because we wanted participants to tell us how they wanted the main categories of the site named (as opposed to us naming the categories for them).

Streamus Senior Project
Streamus is a music streaming Chrome extension created by Sean Anderson. They proposed incorporating Streamus as an LLC in California for tax and liability benefits. The process would include filing forms with the state, appointing a registered agent, and creating an operating agreement. However, after further discussion, incorporating as a C corporation in California or Delaware was deemed better to allow for future investments and shareholders.
