Visiting Rotarian Ross Burkhardt from another club presented President Allan Bertram with his club pennant. Rotarian Alan Suttie updated the club on ongoing Tanzania projects. President Phil Laker of the Rotary Club of Manchester also presented President Bertram with a £500 cheque to support the Tanzania projects. Rotarian Iain Gow gave a vote of thanks at the meeting.

The British Club in Bahrain, the oldest expatriate club in the country, celebrated its 75th anniversary. Prince Andrew attended the ceremony and presented the club chairman with a commemorative plaque. The club also received an award from The Daily Telegraph as the Best Social Club in the World. While the club's early history is not well documented, it was established in 1935 as a golf club and has since served as a home away from home for British expats living in Bahrain. At last night's anniversary celebrations, around 500 guests enjoyed food and entertainment performances paying tribute to artists like Queen and Tina Turner.

The Tulsa SPCA held its 1st Annual Silent & Fundraiser at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. Special guests included Emcee Burt Mummolo from News Channel 8 and DJ Kylie. The event recognized volunteers and sponsors who helped make it a success. Attendees could participate in restaurant gift card and cupcake raffles. A silent auction was also held with various gift items. Many guests won prizes and were happy with the outcomes while learning more about adoptable pets at the Tulsa SPCA.

Carole Pilkington, a 58-year-old woman from Heaton who has been blind for six years, abseiled down the 60-meter clock tower at the Trafford Centre to raise money for Guide Dogs UK, a charity she supports since getting her guide dog Merlin in 2008. Carole has so far raised £123 for Guide Dogs UK through her daring abseil challenge. Carole credits Merlin and Guide Dogs UK with helping her regain independence and appreciates everyone who has donated to the charity. Guide Dogs UK has been breeding and training guide dogs for over 75 years and also supports research and advocacy for the visually impaired.

A public memorial service will be held on October 7th at 4:45pm at the Cairns Cenotaph, followed by drinks and light refreshments at the Cairns RSL Club. The Flying Scotsman
Eric Liddell was a Scottish athlete and missionary born in China in 1902. He attended Edinburgh University where he excelled in athletics, breaking national records. At the 1924 Paris Olympics, Liddell won gold in the 400m and set a world record. After graduating, he became a missionary in China where he continued athletics and married. During World War 2, Liddell was interned by the Japanese at a camp where conditions deteriorated until his death in 1945. Liddell's story was depicted in the film "Chariots of Fire" and he is remembered as one of Scotland's greatest athletes.
Abernethy Talk
Lisa O'Reilly attended a leadership program called RYLA where she gained confidence in her abilities as a leader, made new lifelong friends, and learned a lot.
