This presentation is contributed to the 79th birthday (Nov. 4, 2012) of The Honorable Sir Charles Kuen Kao. The timing, though coincidental, could not have been better to arrange THE SCHAWLOW-TOWNES SYMPOSIUM ON PHOTONICS on Nov. 9, 2012, in the same week.
