Ms. Ambrose's science class website provides resources for students. The 6th grade students have a new web quest assignment to watch videos on calculating mean and median, then use population data from the past 25 years to find the mean, median, and analyze changes in a species' population. The website outlines the task, process, evaluation rubric and includes reference materials like videos and websites to help students with calculating statistics and researching assigned animal populations.
Tracie Ambrose reflects on her first week of student teaching. She was initially disoriented by the schedule but came to understand it. She was pleased that the teacher, Mrs. Siesky, had high standards like herself. Tracie also observed that the Pledge of Allegiance is said daily, contrary to what some believe. She noted the school lunch lacked protein and wondered how students learn healthy choices with limited access outside school. By week's end, Tracie was assisting students and gaining their acceptance as an authority figure.
Social justice aims to address inequality and promote fairness and equal treatment. Early theorists like Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau discussed concepts like social contracts, natural rights, and equality. John Rawls proposed redistributing wealth and making decisions without biases. Social justice is relevant in classrooms because it is intertwined in everyday life. Educating students about social justice helps them develop political awareness to critically view world events and build their identities. When teaching social justice, educators should be careful and aim to empower all students, not just those from privileged backgrounds. They should respect different cultures and include diverse perspectives.
The lesson plan teaches 5th grade students about landforms in the United States. Students will locate landforms on maps, describe landforms verbally and in writing, and identify differences between landforms. Activities include a game to locate landforms, reading about landforms, discussing landforms in a song, and making maps labeling landforms. The teacher reflected that students struggled to understand where the Appalachian and Rocky Mountains are located and the definitions of "plain" and coastal plain. Most of the class time was spent on the mapping activity.
This lesson plan teaches 5th grade students about major bodies of water in the United States. Students learn about the Great Lakes using a mnemonic device. They read about lakes, rivers, and gulfs, then create a map labeling locations like the Mississippi River, Great Lakes, and Gulf of Mexico. The teacher evaluates that students successfully name and locate these water features after the lesson.
Social justice aims to address inequality and promote fairness and equal treatment. Early theorists like Hobbes, Locke, and Rousseau discussed concepts like social contracts, natural rights, and equality. John Rawls proposed redistributing wealth and making decisions without biases. Teaching social justice in classrooms is important because it addresses real-world inequalities. Educators should help students develop political awareness to critically analyze society. They must carefully approach these topics to empower students while respecting different cultures and backgrounds.
1) The document outlines a lesson plan where students will observe and group pictures of different birds based on attributes like beak size and feathers.
2) Students will then listen to recordings of bird sounds and try to match them to the correct pictures.
3) In groups, students will research a specific type of bird, finding information on its population, habitat, diet and nesting. They will plot the bird's population on a map and discuss potential problems from overpopulation.
The document discusses moving customers along a learning curve from novice to superhero. It describes 5 stages of a customer learning curve: novice, beginner, skilled, power user, and super user. For each stage, it provides examples of how customers may interact with a brand and what their needs are at each level in order to advance them to the next stage. The goal is to retain customers and help them progress further along the learning curve through community engagement, rewards, and a positive customer experience.

This document outlines a week-long lesson plan for first grade students about distinguishing historical fact from fiction using the story of Johnny Appleseed. The plan includes reading books and activities to teach the definitions of words like "fiction" and "non-fiction". Students will plant apple seeds, act out the story of Johnny Appleseed, and create an apple tree display to demonstrate what they learned about determining the factual accuracy of folktales. The lesson aims to help students understand the difference between fictional and factual accounts of American history and culture.
The teacher learned that their students had very limited knowledge about landforms outside of their local area due to economic, social, and geographic challenges. To help students develop skills in analyzing different landforms, the teacher brought in pictures, poems, and songs from other regions of the country in their unit design and instruction. Assessments included maps, dioramas, classroom discussions, and a test. To improve the unit, the teacher would engage students in more fact-finding about different areas, have students complete assignments in a different order to provide more information for later work, and assign literature for students to summarize specific landforms.
This lesson plan teaches 5th grade students about landforms in the United States. Students play a review game using latitude and longitude coordinates. They analyze a poem describing landforms and read textbook passages about different regions. Students then create a map labeling various landforms like coastal plains, mountains, and rivers based on what they learned. The teacher monitors student understanding and provides encouragement, with the goal of students being able to correctly identify and illustrate landforms on a map.
1. The document is a social studies test for 5th grade students about landforms and bodies of water in the United States. It contains 10 multiple choice questions testing knowledge of topics like the Mississippi River, Appalachian Mountains, Great Lakes, Gulf of Mexico, prairies, and Continental Divide.
2. Questions cover identifying the largest drainage basin in the US (Mississippi River), the location of the Appalachian Mountains (eastern US), the definition of the Continental Divide (an imaginary line dividing eastern and western river systems), suitable locations for cattle farming (Great Plains), and landforms associated with the acronym HOME (Great Lakes).

This document discusses building and planting a square foot garden. It includes questions about how plants grow vegetables and the roles of bees and seed dispersal. Standard 4.4.3 about organism interactions is cited. Key terms like pollination, anther, stigma, and seed dispersal are defined. The main text then explains how most plants use flowers to attract insects for pollination and how seeds can travel by wind, water, or hitchhiking. A seed dispersal activity and chart are also described.
This document contains summaries of activities from books about insects and reptiles that could be done with elementary school students. The activities focus on having students observe, describe, and learn about different bugs and reptiles. Activities include using pop-up books to learn facts, drawing pictures of bugs, going on a bug-finding field trip, writing bug poems, and creating shadow puppet plays. For reptiles, activities involve learning about different types through charts and songs, completing dot-to-dot drawings, and making shoebox dioramas after research projects on individual reptiles.

Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software FuzzingAftab Hussain
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
