- 2. Forty nine years ago, Centralia joined together to make a major investment in learning by building a new Centralia High School. CHS has served generations of Tigers well, but the world has changed. CHS no longer provides a safe learning environment suitable for 21st Century learning. The building is tired, crowded, and its systems are failing. It has never been modernized or remodeled. We demand much of our educators, it’s up to us to make appropriate investments to help meet those demands. The state does not fund school construction or major repairs. We own our schools, that investment is up to us. Centralia hasn’t invested in schools in over 30 years. Our last bond was paid off in 2006. It’s time to invest in our schools again. For $2.12 per $1,000 in value, the proposed CSD bond will create a like-new CHS and build two new K-6 elementary schools to replace Fords Prairie and Jefferson Lincoln. It will allow the elimination of many portable classrooms, and create safe and appropriate learning spaces. Our schools will become community centers of learning!
