Torrential rains and floods in Sichuan province, China caused widespread destruction of homes and crops. Substantial crops were destroyed and villagers would not be able to resume farming for six months, meaning the flood affected population would rely on food aid in the coming months. Many buildings were damaged by floodwaters and the foundations of newly renovated houses were exposed. Home fixtures and properties were washed away by floodwaters. Roads became impassable and water sources were contaminated. CEDAR has been conducting needs assessments and launching relief operations with local churches, distributing relief items like clothes, bed sheets, cooking utensils and personal hygiene products to 270 homeless families so far. CEDAR plans to support 30 poor households from remote areas
