History Music in Chile ranges from folkloric music, popular music (mainstream), and also classical music.Across the country, music differentiation is categorized by north, center and south of the country.Many different styles of music were imported by the Spanish colonists – dance too.
Folk MusicThe most popular/well-known style of music throughout the countryMany traditional dances are influenced and or based off of Chilean folk music.Some famous dances that have derived from folk music in Chile are Trot and Cachimbo. Every region of the country has their own style or twist to the folk music they may play or listen to.
CuecaHas long been considered the “most popular air of Chile”; it first appeared in 1824.Cueca is always created in   a major key and is written in    six-eight time with accompaniment    in three-four.Most of Cueca songs have an    instrumental introduction twelve    to on hundred bars in length and   the last not of the melody is either in 3rd or 5th scale.
TonadaAn important traditional song, arising from the music brought by Spanish settlers. Its different from Cueca because it   has an intermediate melodic section   and a more prominent melody in   general; the tonada is also not   danced.
