Child dumping is increasing in the region. The researcher plans to study awareness of child dumping at the grassroots level by surveying police, courts, hospitals, ministries, churches, media, youth groups, and local leaders. A survey has been developed to understand definitions of child dumping, experiences reporting or witnessing dumping, causes, impacts on rights and well-being, how parents can be involved, prevention, and recommendations. The survey will be administered by the Eye of the Child organization to assess awareness and capacity for handling dumping cases locally.

Introduction
Child dumping is on the rise with current number of cases increasing weekly. With reference
from articles in newspapers and online newspapers. This has been cited as a problem and
something that needs to be addressed so that the cases of child dumping may decrease and be
tackled with effectively.
Currently cases of child dumping are handled by officials mostly and few people from the grass-
root level. There is a need to increase the awareness and capacity of people in the grass-root level
in handling at first hand the child dumping case in their area. Our team is interested in studying
how the grass-root level is aware of the child dumping cases in their area. Specifically we would
like to know if they are able to report a case, how to treat the dumped child with special care as
well as provide some counselling to the parent who has dumped the child and how to campaign
against child dumping.
Approach
To find out, we plan to administer the survey at various institutional levels. We are specifically
targeting the Police, the Court, the Hospitals, the Ministry, the Churches, the Media, the Youth
Organizations and the Area Chiefs/Leaders. The survey will be carried by the Eye of the child
staff.
Development

-The form in which we will carry out the survey has been decided upon, we shall use
questionnaires
