Executive Summary Project Review of Mobile Science Laboratories June 2012KusumaTrustUK
1. This report summarizes a review of a Mobile Science Laboratories project in India that aims to improve science education for students in grades 6-10. Using mobile vans equipped with materials for hands-on experiments, the project visited schools and encouraged active learning.
2. A comparison of exam results between schools that did and did not participate found that participating students performed better initially, but the difference decreased over three years. Teachers reported increased student participation and interest in science from the practical lessons.
3. For the project benefits to be sustained, the review recommended establishing proper science laboratories in schools, training teachers to conduct experiments, and ensuring schools can replenish materials for continued hands-on learning.
The document discusses the production of a crime-thriller film and accompanying promotional materials. It aimed to entertain genre fans through conventions like action scenes and portrayals of British youth. Storyboards and plans were closely followed during filming medium-long shots to establish characters. Stylistic techniques like an urban soundtrack and low-key lighting were used across the film and its trailer/website to maintain an uneasy tone.

The Massif typeface family, designed by Steve Matteson, is rugged yet refined – and distinctly organic. “It’s my response to the uniformity and neutrality of so many sans serif typefaces being Matteson’s inspiration for Massif came from the rocky features found throughout the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Glacial activity both polishes and erodes fissures, which contrast in texture creating distinct patterns of light and shadow. His initial drawings for the design include sketches of Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. With 12 designs, Massif’s range of usage is deep and wide. its distinctive design traits, large family size, and extensive character-set make the design an excellent choice for a variety of branding, advertising and publication design projects. The Massif family is available as desktop fonts from the Fonts.com, Linotype.com and ITCFonts.com websites. It is also available as Web fonts from WebFonts.Fonts.com.
Data journalism is becoming increasingly important, but journalists and students often lack skills in data analysis and tools. "Hacks and Hackers" pairs journalists ("hacks") with data and computer experts ("hackers") on projects to transfer skills and collaborate. However, there is little evidence such partnerships lead to long-term engagement with data journalism. Events like DJCamp brought journalists and hackers together in Manchester, Preston, and Istanbul for student projects, but follow up was lacking. Effective data journalism requires starting with the story, researching available data sources, and presenting final stories, while recognizing data cleaning takes significant time.

The document provides an overview of the Slovak startup ecosystem based on findings from the 2014 KPMG Startup Survey. It finds that the typical Slovak entrepreneur is young (under 35), well-educated, predominantly male, and working in teams of 2-3 people. Startups cover many industries but are still early-stage, generating modest revenues and employment. While funding is being accessed, expectations remain conservative. The ecosystem is active in supporting startups through organizations, events, and services, though corporates could provide more support. Overall the Slovak startup scene is growing but there is still room for more development.
The document introduces the layout and features of course homepages on the My Big Campus (MBC) learning management system. It defines the major sections like Home, Announcements, Discussions, Chat, Pages, Resources, Calendar, and Members. Examples of introductory watercolor and research paper courses are provided. Navigation of MBC is like Facebook with Activities as the newsfeed, Bundles for learning units, Conversations for messages, EduTalk like Twitter, Groups as classes, Pages to hold units, and Schoolwork as assignments.
The Virgin Islands has an abundance of sunshine. It doesn't have to be shipped from foreign shores via freighters. This document provides an overview of the Social Studies 9 course for the year, including the three units of study, assessment breakdown, course expectations, and essential questions. The units cover governance and rights in Canada, quality of life, and economic systems in Canada and the US. Students will be assessed through assignments, tests, and a final exam. The document outlines expectations like arriving prepared, completing assignments on time, and respecting others. It also describes an in-class simulation where students represent regions of Canada and must reach consensus on national policies.

This document provides best practices for PhoneGap development, including:
- Using templating to encapsulate repeatable HTML/CSS patterns and separate view components from code.
- Developing with offline usage in mind and leveraging the PhoneGap reachability API.
- Leveraging various platforms' storage options like SQLite, BlackBerry persistent storage, and the File API.
- Using lightweight frameworks like XUI that work across platforms including BlackBerry.
- Optimizing for performance by keeping apps to a single HTML page and obfuscating JavaScript.
- Being aware of PhoneGap's limitations for intensive games and graphics or slower devices.
