They dealt in everything, from frozen
chicken to pencils. Yet this trade in
arbitrary items brought Christian
little satisfaction; he wanted to create
something. “Already as a little boy,
I would draw automobiles. I was still
convinced that I could make an
interesting car. Though I had no
experience in the automobile
industry, I had always been interested
in design and technological
challenges.”
In 1994, he made a sketch of a car and
had a design company make
a scale model. He talked to experts in
cars, technology, construction and
marketing and created a team with
which he believed he could put this
car on the market. “Impatient as I am,
I wanted to complete the first
prototype within a year.” In the end,
this first step took two years, which is
still extremely short for this sector. In
the meantime, the design developed
along with the car – though many of
the initial features of the first draft
can still be found in the final design.
Now that the prototype was ready, the
production line was set up. In
2000, the company presented its
preproduction model at the Paris
Auto Show. “
