Women's roles began to change during World War I. They worked in munitions factories and as nurses to support the war effort. With many men overseas, women stayed home to support their families by taking on their husband's factory jobs or working in other industries like laundries and inns. This began to shift society's views of what women were capable of and allowed them to have a greater presence outside the home.
