The film Titanic depicts the social divide between classes on the ship, as the love story blossoms between Jack, a low-class passenger who won his ticket in a card game, and Rose, a first-class woman. Jack is initially judged as a threat because of his lower status, though Rose vouches for him. The story structure alternates between Rose recounting her memories of Titanic in the present day and flashbacks to her forbidden romance with Jack aboard the sinking ship. By hearing Rose's emotional first-hand account of losing her lover in the disaster, the film draws audiences deeply into the story.

Representation of social groups
In the film, there is a definite divide shown between higher and lower class, and it is a strong
element of the storyline. Showing how the love blossoms between two of a different class,
jack who was a low class citizen who only boarded Titanic by winning a card game, and Rose
a first class woman who is travelling home to America with her mother and fiancée.
They both begin on different parts of the boat, until Jack saves Rose from
trying to commit suicide. He is automatically accused of trying to hurt her
because he is of a lower class; however Rose explains that he was only
helping her. He is then invited to join Rose and her companions for dinner.
One of the nicer females (Molly) lends him a dinner suit and he was virtually
un-recognisable. However, he showed his class again by his manners at the
table, this can be seen slightly in this link;

Jacks lower class is also shown when he is accused of stealing the necklace and is
imprisoned lower on the deck in handcuffs, he is poorly treated by others and shows he is of
lower importance.
Story Structure
Thesis: The first character introduced is Rose as her older self, in her daughter’s home; she is
watering plants when she hears on her television there is an expedition looking at the wreck
of the Titanic, and are after a very precious necklace thought to be on the wreckage. We
then see her daughter as she turns up the volume on the television. Rose is transported by
helicopter to the expedition ship where she tells the crew her story of being on the Titanic.
Antithesis: It goes back into time as she is describing the way the boat looked, and we hear
her story. We get introduced to her younger self and the other main character, Jack. We
hear about how they share a forbidden love, against
her mother and her fiancées will, then the mood
changes when she goes on to explain about the sinking.
By seeing it from her memory it makes it exceptionally
emotional to watch, and helps us to see how she would
have felt.
Synthesis: When she finishes her story, it goes back to
her future self, on the boat, with the crew listening intently. As she explains about how her
love perishes, she becomes sad and we then see her standing on the railings of the ship, she
slowly takes the necklace out of her pocket and drops it into the cold Atlantic to rest with
the soul of her lover.

We intend on using the idea of a forbidden love, because the woman is unhappy in her
current relationship, our film is based very much on the ideas within Titanic, such as the
class difference between the two love interests, one being high class and the other being of
lower class
The style of the film
This film is an incredible example of having the ability to
suck the audience into the story with the actors; it has the
ability to draw out emotion and bring up discussion and to
question choices that were made or are going to be made.
It is so realistically recreated, that we believe the older
Rose was actually on the Titanic and went through the
traumatic experience. Those that created the film must
have used vast amounts of research to make it so accurate.
The feel of this film is utterly exceptional and I would love
our video to have the ability to draw our audience in, just like Titanic does.
The best example of audience connection is throughout the sinking of the ship, as they show
not only Rose and Jack’s story, but others too; there is a scene where we see the old couple
laying in their bed together, and a 3rd class woman tucking her children in for the night with
a bedtime story because they know they cant get out and want to die happily, also when
they show all of the women and children being shown to the boat leaving their fathers
behind.
By seeing other groups being affected it helps to show the tragic scene better.
In our film we hope to have the ability to make our audience feel involved.
