The document discusses a report analyzing certification processes for departments 40 and 45 at Timken Company's Bucyrus Bearing Operations. It found many associates were overdue for certification, some by two years. Key personnel were polled and overwhelmingly felt current certification programs were inadequate. The report suggests tracking certifications in a database and scheduling them on associates' birthdays to keep records up to date. It also recommends designating trainers and holding them accountable for associates' training and certification.
New Brunswick Shared Risk Pension PlanRon Cheshire
The document discusses a new pension plan model called the New Brunswick Shared Risk Pension Plan that aims to address problems with rapidly improving mortality rates, low investment returns, underfunded plans, lack of intergenerational equity, and risk management. The key aspects of the model are: 1) Using up-to-date mortality data and asset-type probability distributions to determine asset mixes, 2) Splitting benefits into "base" and "ancillary" portions to provide different security levels, 3) Measuring funding adequacy using open group funding ratios instead of solvency ratios, and 4) Conducting annual risk assessments and adjusting contributions or benefits as needed to maintain funding levels. The goals are to preserve defined benefit plans through
The document describes the implementation of an integrated funds transfer pricing (FTP) framework at a bank. It uses a simple bank balance sheet to illustrate how an FTP process can achieve objectives like risk-adjusted performance measurement, prospective pricing guidance, and risk transfer. It shows how liquidity and interest rate risk can be isolated and managed through term funding and swaps. Finally, it demonstrates how an FTP center fully integrates these components to provide consistent pricing, risk management, and attribution of results across business units.
Adapting Pensions to Changing DemographicsRon Cheshire
This document summarizes the key recommendations from a report on adapting Quebec's pension system to changing demographics. It recommends returning pension plans to financial reality by using realistic discount rates. It also recommends enhancing governance flexibility, reducing pension deficiencies through restructuring over 5 years, and reinventing the role of personal savings. A major recommendation is introducing a Longevity Pension to provide additional financial security paid from age 75, funded through equal employer-employee contributions of 3.3% of salaries. This would help address challenges from rising life expectancies without overburdening the public pension system.
The document discusses the need for integrated balance sheet management in financial institutions. It notes that traditional ALM focusing only on interest rate risk and capital is evolving into dynamic balance sheet management that drives strategic decisions. Future state balance sheet management will fundamentally change operating models, rationalize data/technology, and use enhanced analytics to optimize strategies under multiple constraints. Implementing these changes requires sponsorship from the Board and cross-functional participation across the organization.
Aging of the future will be different from aging of the pastRon Cheshire
1. Population aging will be different in the future compared to the past due to declining fertility rates and increasing life expectancies which are resulting in an older population profile.
2. Social programs and pension plans were established in the 1960s under different demographic conditions characterized by population growth and a younger population structure.
3. The demographic dividend from growing populations is now a thing of the past as fertility rates have stabilized at lower levels.

The paper details the problems with public recyclable waste, particularly plastic bottles. The full paper will be published in the future in a business or scientific journal.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs

Product Design Trends in 2024 | Teenage EngineeringsPixeldarts
The realm of product design is a constantly changing environment where technology and style intersect. Every year introduces fresh challenges and exciting trends that mold the future of this captivating art form. In this piece, we delve into the significant trends set to influence the look and functionality of product design in the year 2024.
How Race, Age and Gender Shape Attitudes Towards Mental HealthThinkNow
Mental health has been in the news quite a bit lately. Dozens of U.S. states are currently suing Meta for contributing to the youth mental health crisis by inserting addictive features into their products, while the U.S. Surgeon General is touring the nation to bring awareness to the growing epidemic of loneliness and isolation. The country has endured periods of low national morale, such as in the 1970s when high inflation and the energy crisis worsened public sentiment following the Vietnam War. The current mood, however, feels different. Gallup recently reported that national mental health is at an all-time low, with few bright spots to lift spirits.
To better understand how Americans are feeling and their attitudes towards mental health in general, ThinkNow conducted a nationally representative quantitative survey of 1,500 respondents and found some interesting differences among ethnic, age and gender groups.
Technology
For example, 52% agree that technology and social media have a negative impact on mental health, but when broken out by race, 61% of Whites felt technology had a negative effect, and only 48% of Hispanics thought it did.
While technology has helped us keep in touch with friends and family in faraway places, it appears to have degraded our ability to connect in person. Staying connected online is a double-edged sword since the same news feed that brings us pictures of the grandkids and fluffy kittens also feeds us news about the wars in Israel and Ukraine, the dysfunction in Washington, the latest mass shooting and the climate crisis.
Hispanics may have a built-in defense against the isolation technology breeds, owing to their large, multigenerational households, strong social support systems, and tendency to use social media to stay connected with relatives abroad.
Age and Gender
When asked how individuals rate their mental health, men rate it higher than women by 11 percentage points, and Baby Boomers rank it highest at 83%, saying it’s good or excellent vs. 57% of Gen Z saying the same.
Gen Z spends the most amount of time on social media, so the notion that social media negatively affects mental health appears to be correlated. Unfortunately, Gen Z is also the generation that’s least comfortable discussing mental health concerns with healthcare professionals. Only 40% of them state they’re comfortable discussing their issues with a professional compared to 60% of Millennials and 65% of Boomers.
Race Affects Attitudes
As seen in previous research conducted by ThinkNow, Asian Americans lag other groups when it comes to awareness of mental health issues. Twenty-four percent of Asian Americans believe that having a mental health issue is a sign of weakness compared to the 16% average for all groups. Asians are also considerably less likely to be aware of mental health services in their communities (42% vs. 55%) and most likely to seek out information on social media (51% vs. 35%).

AI Trends in Creative Operations 2024 by Artwork Flow.pdfmarketingartwork
Creative operations teams expect increased AI use in 2024. Currently, over half of tasks are not AI-enabled, but this is expected to decrease in the coming year. ChatGPT is the most popular AI tool currently. Business leaders are more actively exploring AI benefits than individual contributors. Most respondents do not believe AI will impact workforce size in 2024. However, some inhibitions still exist around AI accuracy and lack of understanding. Creatives primarily want to use AI to save time on mundane tasks and boost productivity.
Organizational culture includes values, norms, systems, symbols, language, assumptions, beliefs, and habits that influence employee behaviors and how people interpret those behaviors. It is important because culture can help or hinder a company's success. Some key aspects of Netflix's culture that help it achieve results include hiring smartly so every position has stars, focusing on attitude over just aptitude, and having a strict policy against peacocks, whiners, and jerks.

Google's Just Not That Into You: Understanding Core Updates & Search IntentLily Ray
1. Core updates from Google periodically change how its algorithms assess and rank websites and pages. This can impact rankings through shifts in user intent, site quality issues being caught up to, world events influencing queries, and overhauls to search like the E-A-T framework.
2. There are many possible user intents beyond just transactional, navigational and informational. Identifying intent shifts is important during core updates. Sites may need to optimize for new intents through different content types and sections.
3. Responding effectively to core updates requires analyzing "before and after" data to understand changes, identifying new intents or page types, and ensuring content matches appropriate intents across video, images, knowledge graphs and more.

29. Track Certifications using a database and
spreadsheet system. Trainers or managers
need only update the spreadsheet with the
next certification date for each
associate, the database will automatically
track the needed certifications from that
point on. The same method could be used
for needed training, but clearly, the
certification situation needs to be
addressed first.
1/10/2013 Scott A. Ekleberry 29
30. Schedule certification on, or
around, the associates birth date.
This will make it very easy to
update the spreadsheet record
once the new certification process
is in place.
1/10/2013 Scott A. Ekleberry 30
31. Explore the possibility of the Timken IT
Department designing an interface with
the supplied Access Database which will
automatically e-mail supervisors reports of
associates due for certification on a weekly
basis. This would eliminate the manager
having to make reports from the database
and e-mail them to supervisors.
1/10/2013 Scott A. Ekleberry 31
32. It is felt that the new database/spreadsheet
system is a viable means of tracking
certifications easily and accurately. For most
effective use, the spreadsheet and database
should be placed in a folder on the server, so that
they may be easily accessed and updated.
As with any system, this one will only be as
effective as those that are assigned to update the
files on a regular basis.

Editor's Notes
Steps Taken Included:Certification data was collected.Overdue certifications mapped-out.Key personnel were polled for input. The impact of department vacation on timely certification was explored.Alternative methods considered for the certification process.Final analysis of certification process and alternatives laid out.
Certification data was somewhat disorganized. All certification data was collated into one spreadsheet using multiple worksheets.
To make data much easier to access, the certifications spreadsheet was linked to an Access database. The database was set up with three linked tables, and each table had queries added to enable sorting of certification data instantly. Overdue certifications can be tracked in less than 30 seconds, and reports can be generated from the data. Certification dates are simply updated in the linked spreadsheet, then the data is updated in the database automatically.
There are sixty-three cone inspectors in Department 45, of those sixty-three, thirty-one are overdue for certification as of June 6, 2008.. This represents nearly a 50% lapse in certification for Department 45.
There are eighteen Lead Manufacturing Associates in Department 40, of those eighteen three are overdue for certification as of June 6, 2008.
There are ninety Manufacturing Associates in Department 40, of those sixty seven are overdue for certification as of June 6, 2008; this means that 74% of MA’s in Department 40 are overdue for certification.
Questionnaires are a time-honored method of gaining anonymous input on pertinent data and comments. In this instance, supervisors, trainers, and one manager were polled.
Key Personnel Were Polled on Six Main Points:Do you feel there is a problem with the way training or recertification is handled in your department?Do you feel that scheduling training/recertification on (or near) the associate’s birthday would help in keeping certifications current?Do you feel that a lack of proper training is a problem in your department?Do you feel scheduling brush-up training on (or near) the associate’s birthday would be an asset?Do you feel there is a problem completing certifications and training during the summer months due to vacations schedules?Do you feel that the present certification and training programs are adequate?
When asked “Do you feel there is a problem with the way training or recertification is handled in your department?,” 100% of respondents felt there was a problem.
83% of respondents felt that the certification and training programs for Department 40 and 45 were inadequate, while only 17% percent felt training and certification was adequate.
When asked if they thought scheduling certification on (or near) the associate’s birthday would help in keeping certifications current, 67% of respondents felt that it would help, while only 33% felt it would have no effect.
An overwhelming majority of respondents felt that there was insufficient training in Departments 40 and 45.
When asked if they feel scheduling brush-up training on (or near) the associate’s birthday would be an asset, respondents were split 50/50 in favor and against.
When asked: “Do you feel there is a problem completing certifications and training during the summer months due to vacations schedules?”, 67% of respondents felt that this was a problem.
When asked: “Do you feel that the present certification and training programs are adequate?”, 83% of respondents felt that the training and certification programs were not adequate.
Question #7 was text-based, and opinions were asked for. The next six slides represent some of the responses from that question. The next six slides will play without narration, as they are self-explanatory.
Clearly, heavy vacation schedules in May-October will have an impact on training and certification in Department 40.
As in Department 40, heavy vacation schedules in May-October will have an impact on training and certification in Department 45.
By doing this one simple step, the associate, manager, and supervisor can provide a checks and balances system to make certain each associate gets certified on time. Where birth dates fall on a weekend, the associate would need to be scheduled for certification the week before or after.
