CAT Lesson Plan (October 9th)

Title of Lesson: Learning to Tell Time-Paper Plate Time Clock
Duration: 10-15 Minutes
Part I: Paper Plate Clocks
Learning Goals: Students will be able to tell time on manual clocks. Students will recognize
the time on automatic clocks, and will be able to replicate it on their paper clocks.
Materials Needed: Paper plates, pins, markers, cut-out arrows
Preparation: The paper plates with slits will be already cut and be placed onto the other
plate. The arrows will be pinned into the clock as well.
What to Do: The students will write the hours and minutes onto the clock. The students
will write minutes on the big arrow and hours on the small arrow. On the bottom plate, the
students will write the minutes. For example, the first plate will have a slit that have a 5
written on it, as the slit rises the bottom plate should say 30, indicating the minutes.
Outcomes to Look For: Students will be tested on their knowledge of time. The students
will apply their knowledge from the classroom to the activity.
Part II: Clock Race
Learning goals: By racing one another, the students will be able to challenge their
knowledge of time.
Materials Needed: Paper clocks made previously
Preparation: Tutor will have a stack of notecards with times written on them in digital
form.
What to do: Show the students the time from the notecard. The students will race one
another to move the arrows on the clock to the correct time.
Outcomes to Look For: Students encouraging one another to get the answer correct. Quick
response of the students to answer the questions correctly.
