1. Release the track tension. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Track -
Check/Adjust".

2. Attach Tooling (A) to hold the major bogies in position.
Typical Example
3. Use Tooling (B) to lift the tractor. Use Tooling (B) to support the tractor during the removal
procedure. Refer to Tool Operating Manual, NEHS1303, "Lift Group (Stand - 25 Ton)" for
more information.

4. Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to support track roller (3) during the removal
procedure. The weight of track roller (3) is approximately 171 kg (377 lb).
5. Remove bolts (2) and cap (1). Bolts (2) and cap (1) hold the track roller to the minor bogie.
Repeat Step 5 for the bolts and the cap on the other side of the track roller.
6. Use Tooling (C) and the suitable lifting device to remove track roller (3) from the minor
bogie.

1. Use Tooling (C) and a suitable lifting device to position track roller (3) on the minor bogie.
The weight of track roller (3) is approximately 171 kg (377 lb).
Note: Tighten bolts (2) on the abutment side first.
2. Apply Tooling (D) to the threads of bolts (2). Install cap (1) and bolts (2). Tighten bolts (2)
to a torque of 2200 ± 200 N·m (1623 ± 148 lb ft). Repeat Step 2 for the cap and for the bolts
on the other side of the track roller.
Typical Example
3. Use Tooling (B) to lower the tractor to the ground. Remove Tooling (B). Refer to Tool
Operating Manual, NEHS1303, "Lift Group (Stand - 25 Ton)" for more information.

4. Remove Tooling (A).
5. Tighten the track tension. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Track -
Check/Adjust".

1. Loosen the track. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Track - Check/Adjust".

2. Remove step assembly (1) from the radiator guard.
3. Position suitable cribbing (2) under track (4) so that suitable cribbing (2) is under the first track roller
on rear track roller frame (3). Install Tooling (A). Position Tooling (B) under the blade. Lower the
blade onto Tooling (B). Separate track (4) .

4. Remove plug (8) and drain the oil from rear track roller frame (3) into a suitable container for
storage or disposal. Remove bolts (5) and cover (6) from both sides of rear track roller frame (3).
Remove O-ring seal (7) that is located under cover (6) .
5. Use Tooling (C) in order to remove guide assembly (9) from both sides of rear track roller frame
(3) .

6. Attach a suitable lifting device onto front track roller frame (10). Position a suitable chain around
front track roller frame (10). Attach Tooling (D) onto the chain. Carefully move front track roller
frame (10) approximately 51 mm (2.0 inch) away from rear track roller frame (2). Use Tooling (E) in
order to protect the seals in rear track roller frame (3). You will need to cut Tooling (E) to length.

7. Attach a suitable lifting device and Tooling (D) in order to support the rear of front track roller frame
(10). The weight of front track roller frame (10) is approximately 3810 kg (8400 lb). Remove front
track roller frame (10) from rear track roller frame (3) .
8. If necessary, remove retaining ring (14), seal (13), retaining ring (12), and bearing (11) .

1. Install bearing (11) and retaining ring (12). Install seal (13) and lightly lubricate the sealing lip with
the lubricant being sealed. Install retaining ring (14).
2. Use Tooling (E) to protect the seal.

3. Use a suitable lifting device and Tooling (D) to support the rear of front track roller frame (10). The
weight of front track roller frame (10) is approximately 3810 kg (8400 lb). Install front track roller
frame (10) until the suitable lifting device contacts rear track roller frame (3). Remove the suitable
lifting device.
4. Position a chain around the idler. Attach the chain to the rear track roller frame and to Tooling (D).
Remove Tooling (E). Use Tooling (D) and install front track roller frame (10) into rear track roller
frame (3).

5. Install guide assembly (9) on the outside of rear track roller frame (3).
Note: Check the O-ring seal for wear or for damage. If necessary, replace the O-ring seal.
6. Install O-ring seal (7) on cover (6). Install cover (6). Install bolts (5). Tighten bolts (5) to a torque of
215 ± 40 N·m (159 ± 30 lb ft).
7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for the inside of rear track roller frame (3).

8. Connect track (4). Raise the blade and remove Tooling (B). Remove Tooling (A). Remove suitable
cribbing (2) from track roller frame (3).
9. Install step assembly (1).
10. Fill the recoil spring compartment with oil. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Recoil
Spring Compartment Oil Level - Check" and Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Capacities
(Refill)".
11. Tighten the track. Refer to Operation and Maintenance Manual, "Track - Check/Adjust".

Chrome Bearing - Remove and Install

Start By:
A. Remove the front track roller frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Roller
Frame (Front) - Remove".
Note: The front track roller frame does not need to be completely removed from the machine in
order to replace the chrome bearing.

1. Attach a suitable lifting device onto front track roller frame (3). The weight of front track
roller frame (3) is approximately 3810 kg (8400 lb). Move chrome bearing (2) to the
location of the suitable lifting device. Place Tooling (A) under recoil spring housing (1).
Remove the suitable lifting device.
2. Remove chrome bearing (2) from front track roller frame (3) and recoil spring housing (1).
Attach the suitable lifting device and remove Tooling (A) .

A 180-3033 Repair Stand Set 1

1. Attach a suitable lifting device to front track roller frame (3). The weight of front track
roller frame (3) is approximately 3810 kg (8400 lb). Use the suitable lifting device to raise
the rear of front track roller frame (3) to 15 degrees or more. Place Tooling (A) under recoil
spring housing (1) in order to hold front track roller frame (3) in position. Remove the
suitable lifting device.
2. Raise the temperature of chrome bearing (2). Slide chrome bearing (2) onto recoil spring
housing (1) to Tooling (A). Attach the suitable lifting device and remove Tooling (A). Slide
chrome bearing (2) to the larger diameter of recoil spring housing (2) .
3. Carefully slide chrome bearing (2) onto recoil spring housing (1). Use a suitable block to
apply constant pressure on chrome bearing (2). The suitable block will help prevent chrome
bearing (2) from bouncing away from the proper area of installation.
Note: Do not allow the temperature of chrome bearing (2) to cool during the installation
procedure. If chrome bearing (2) is installed in an incorrect position, chrome bearing (2)
must be removed and a new chrome bearing must be installed.

A. Remove the front track roller frame. Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Track Roller
Frame (Front) - Remove".
NOTICE
Care must be taken to ensure that fluids are contained during
performance of inspection, maintenance, testing, adjusting and repair
of the product. Be prepared to collect the fluid with suitable containers
before opening any compartment or disassembling any component
containing fluids.

Refer to Special Publication, NENG2500, "Caterpillar Dealer Service
Tool Catalog" for tools and supplies suitable to collect and contain
fluids on Caterpillar products.
Dispose of all fluids according to local regulations and mandates.
1. Put Tooling (A) in position under the front track roller frame.
2. Remove the bolt, washer (5), and the spacer. Disconnect cable assembly (4) from cylinder
assembly (1) .
3. Loosen relief valve (2) and fill valve (3) .
