1. Lubricate all of the O-ring seals with the lubricant that is being sealed.
2. Install O-rings (9) and (10) onto spool (5).

3. Install spool (5) into the actuator housing. Tighten spool (5) to a torque of 50 ± 5 N·m
(37 ± 4 lb ft).
4. Install solenoid (6), washer (7), and nut (8).
5. Tighten nut (8) to a torque of 20 ± 2.5 N·m (177 ± 22 lb in).

6. Fill the cavity (B) to the halfway mark with Tooling (B). Cavity (B) is found on the valve
housing.

7. Position actuator assembly (3) on valve housing (4). Install bolts (2).
8. Install temperature sensor (1). Apply Tooling (A) to the threads on temperature sensor (1).
Tighten temperature sensor (1) to a torque of 45 ± 5 N·m (33 ± 4 lb ft).
End By:
a. Install the Exhaust Gas Valve.

1. Loosen clamp assemblies (1), (3) and (5).
2. Slide elbow (4) into bellows (2) in order to gain clearance. Remove the bellows assembly.
Note: All of the parts that have been removed should be discarded.
3. Discard clamp assemblies (1), (3), and (5). Discard elbow (4) and bellows (2).

Note: Alignment wrap (A) will be included with the new bellows assembly. The Tooling
will be pre-installed on the bellows.
Note: The alignment wrap (A) should not be removed until Step 9. Bellows (2) should
never be flexed during installation.
1. Distance (X) is 40 mm (1.6 inch). Place Mark (B) onto elbow (4) a Distance (X) from the
end of elbow (4).
2. Insert elbow (4) into the bellows. The elbow should be inserted as far as possible without
using force. This action will minimize the overall length of the bellows assembly and will
help with installation.

3. Prior to installation, position both ball clamp assemblies (1) and (5) onto the bellows
assembly.
4. Position the bellows assembly between the Catalyst and the turbocharger adapter. Adjust the
length of elbow (4) in the slip joint at clamp assembly (3) in order to position the bellows
assembly.
5. Verify that the cup of the ball joint (E) does not touch the radius of the ball (D). Position
ball clamp (1) and hand tighten ball clamp (1). Measure Distance (Y) and Distance (Z). The
two measurements should be equal. Repeat the measurements every 90° around ball clamp
(1). If necessary, adjust ball clamp (1).
6. Repeat Step 5 for ball clamp (5) which is located near the turbocharger.
7. Verify that Mark (B) is not visible at the slip joint that is positioned near clamp assembly
(3).
Note: Do not use power tools in order to torque clamp assemblies (1), (3), and (5).
8. Torque ball clamp (1) and (5) to a torque of 35 ± 2 N·m (26 ± 1 lb ft).
9. Remove alignment wrap (A) from bellows (2).
10. Torque clamp assembly (3) to a torque of 55 ± 8 N·m (41 ± 6 lb ft).

Note: Mark (X) will be used during the alignment of the catalyst (2), when the catalyst is
installed.
1. Apply Mark (X) on either side of strap assembly (3).

2. Remove exhaust elbow (1). Refer to Disassembly and Assembly, "Exhaust Elbow - Remove
and Install".
Note: Do not use power tools in order to disconnect strap assemblies (3).
3. Position Tooling (A) onto catalyst (2) (not shown). Use hand tools in order to disconnect
strap assemblies (3) and remove the catalyst. The weight of catalyst (2) is approximately
50 kg (110 lb).
4. If necessary, repeat the above steps for the opposite side.
Installation Procedure
1. Install catalyst (2) in the reverse order.

Typical Example
a. Align Mark (X) when positioning catalyst (2) into place.
b. Apply Tooling (B) to the threads of clamp assemblies (3) for a Distance (Z). Distance
(Z) is 25 mm (1 inch) above the trunnion. Use hand tools in order to tighten clamp
assemblies (3). Tighten clamp assemblies (3) to a torque of 15 ± 3 N·m
(133 ± 27 lb in).

5. Remove bolts (7) and separate mixing tube (8) from plate (6).
6. Remove bolts (9) and separate mixing tube (8) from air inlet manifold (5). Remove and
discard the O-ring seals.

8. Remove stud bolt (10) from elbow (13).
9. Remove eight bolts (12) and remove elbows (13).
Installation Procedure
1. Install manifold (4) in the reverse order of removal.
a. Apply Tooling (A) to the O-ring Seals for elbows (13).

b. Position Tooling (B) and a suitable block of wood on the engine. Use Tooling (B) to
install mixing tube (8) and install bolts (3).

a. Remove the electronic unit injectors.
NOTICE
Keep all parts clean from contaminants.
Contaminants may cause rapid wear and shortened component life.
Note: Place the piston at the top of the compression stroke (TC). Remove the valve springs for
that cylinder. If the valves fall into the cylinder liner, then the cylinder head must be removed.
1. Position the No. 1 piston at the top center of the compression stroke. Refer to Testing and
Adjusting, "Finding Top Center Position for No. 1 Piston".

Personal injury can result from being struck by parts propelled by a
released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.

2. Install Tooling (A) in the electronic unit injector sleeve. Secure Tooling (A) with unit
injector clamp (1).
3. Tighten the full nut until valve spring keepers (3) are loose on valve (2).
4. Remove valve spring keepers (3) from the valve.
5. Carefully remove Tooling (A).
6. Remove valve rotator (4).
7. Remove outer valve spring (6) and inner valve spring (5) from the valve.
8. Remove washer (7) from the valve guide.
9. Use Tooling (B) to check the valve springs (spring force). Refer to Specifications, "Cylinder
Head Valves" for additional information on the valve springs.

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
2. Ensure that washer (7) is installed on the valve guide.
3. Install inner valve spring (5) and outer valve spring (6) on valve (2).
4. Install valve rotator (4) on valve (2).
The valve spring keepers can be thrown from the valve when the valve
spring compressor is released. Ensure that the valve spring keepers are
properly installed on the valve stem. To help prevent personal injury,
keep away from the front of the valve spring keepers and valve springs
during the installation of the valves.
5. Use Tooling (A) to compress inner valve spring (5) and outer valve spring (6). Install valve
spring keepers (3) on valve (2). Remove unit injector clamp (1) and Tooling (A).

Position the bellows assembly between the Catalyst and the turbocharger adapter. Adjust the length of elbow (4) in the slip joint at clamp assembly (3) in order to position the bellows assembly. 5. Verify that the cup of the ball joint (E) does not touch the radius of the ball (D). Position ball clamp (1) and hand tighten ball clamp (1). Measure Distance (Y) and Distance (Z). The two measurements should be equal. Repeat the measurements every 90° around ball clamp (1). If necessary, adjust ball clamp (1). 6. Repeat Step 5 for ball clamp (5) which is located near the turbocharger. 7. Verify that Mark (B) is not visible at the slip joint that is positioned near clamp assembly (3). Note: Do not use power tools in order to torque clamp assemblies (1), (3), and (5). 8. Torque ball clamp (1) and (5) to a torque of 35 ± 2 N·m (26 ± 1 lb ft). 9. Position Tooling (A) onto catalyst (2) (not shown). Use hand tools in order to disconnect strap assemblies (3) and remove the catalyst. The weight of catalyst (2) is approximately 50 kg (110 lb). 4.
