Start By:
a. Release the hydraulic system pressure.
Personal injury can result from hydraulic oil pressure and hot oil.
Hydraulic oil pressure can remain in the hydraulic system after the
engine has been stopped. Serious injury can be caused if this pressure is
not released before any service is done on the hydraulic system.
Make sure all of the work tools have been lowered to the ground, and
the oil is cool before removing any components or lines. Remove the oil
filler cap only when the engine is stopped, and the filler cap is cool
enough to touch with your bare hand.

1. Remove the cap from the hydraulic tank. Install Tooling (A) onto the hydraulic tank. Attach
an air supply hose to Tooling (A). Apply 276 to 414 kPa (40 to 60 psi) of air. This
procedure will pull vacuum on the hydraulic system.

2. Disconnect tube assemblies (1) and (2). Remove bolts (3) and remove load control valve
(4).
Installation Procedure
1. Install load control valve (boom cylinder) (3) in the reverse order of removal.

Load Control Valve (Boom Cylinder) - Disassemble

Start By:
a. Remove the load control valve (boom cylinder)

1. Remove relief valve (4). Remove plug (2) and washer (3).

released spring force.
Make sure to wear all necessary protective equipment.
Follow the recommended procedure and use all recommended tooling to
release the spring force.
3. Remove plug (10), shims (9), guide (8), spring (7), valve (6), and valve (5).

Load Control Valve (Boom Cylinder) - Assemble

1. Install ball (19), seat (20), plug (21), and nut (22) onto plug (12).
2. Tighten plug (21) to a torque of 48 ± 5 N·m (35 ± 40 lb ft).
3. Tighten seat (20) to a torque of 2.25 ± 0.25 N·m (20 ± 2 lb in). Tighten nut (22) to a torque
of 4.0 ± 0.5 N·m (35 ± 4 lb in).

Improper assembly of parts that are spring loaded can cause bodily
injury.
To prevent possible injury, follow the established assembly procedure
and wear protective equipment.
4. Install the O-ring and back up ring onto guide assembly (16)
5. Install valve (14), spring (15), guide assembly (16), cover (17), and bolts (18).
6. Tighten bolts (18) to a torque of 100 ± 20 N·m (74 ± 15 lb ft).

7. Install relief valve (4). Install washer (3) and plug (2). Tighten relief valve (4) to a torque of
95 ± 14 N·m (70 ± 10 lb ft).
8. Install the O-ring seal onto guide (13). Install guide (13). Tighten guide (13) to a torque of
35 ± 3 N·m (26 ± 2 lb ft).

11. 9. Install pin (12) and piston (11).
10. Install valve (1).
11. Install valve (5), valve (6), spring (7), guide (8), shims (9), and plug (10).
12. Tighten valve (1) to a torque of 215 ± 25 N·m (159 ± 18 lb ft). Tighten plug (10) to a torque
of 300 ± 40 N·m (221 ± 30 lb ft).
End By:
a. Install the load control valve.

Cylinders equipped with lock valves can remain pressurized for very
long periods of time, even with the hoses removed.
Failure to relieve pressure before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder can result in personal injury or death.
Ensure all pressure is relieved before removing a lock valve or
disassembling a cylinder.
1. Fully extend the bucket cylinder. Fully extend the stick cylinder. Lower the boom until the
stick assembly is in contact with the ground.
2. Release the pressure in the hydraulic system.
