How the case for the The Silver Arrow was made

1. The Ancient Society of Kilwinning Archers
Manufacturing the transportation case
for the Kilwinning Silver Arrow Trophy.

2. The case was made from 12mm oak veneered plywood with the
front and back panels made from 6mm oak veneered plywood.

3. The completed case
stands upright to reduce
the stress on the bow
limbs when inserting and
transporting the trophy.
The 12mm thick carcase
is glued and screwed.

4. The 6mm plywood panels are fitted to the carcase.
The hinge re-enforcing strip is glued to the drop front.

5. 12mm angled oak edging is fitted to the lid and the opening
edges of the carcase. Note the mitred and scribed corners.

6. 25mm oak edging covers the outside edges of the case.
Note the multiple mitred corners and scribed 12mm edging.

7. Drop front showing the internal closure flange and the scribed
and mitred hardwood angle. Case ready for hardware fittings.

8. Case varnished. Hardware and some of the foam pads fitted.
(The support chains were later removed to improve access.)

9. The completed case showing the brass information plate,
acknowledging the work done in producing the case.

10. The silver arrows are retained in the drop front.
The bow and string are supported in five places.

11. The spring loaded support boss spigot rises inside the silver
boss of the bow. Adjustable wooden pegs support the string.
