Cuba has a long history with Christmas traditions despite it not being an official holiday until 1997. Families would celebrate on Christmas Eve, called Noche Buena, with a large feast centered around a roasted pig and buñuelos, a fried sweet dough. Though celebrated as a Catholic holiday, the communist government initially frowned upon Christmas festivities.

Global forces that have contributed to the growth of the cruise industry include rising incomes allowing more people to afford ocean vacations, advances in ship technology making sea travel accessible to the masses, and the decline of transoceanic air travel after the rise of jet planes. Carnival Cruise Lines in particular has benefited from targeting the working middle class through its concept of the "Fun Ship" vacation. While the cruise industry faces threats from economic downturns, health issues, and weather disruptions, its outlook remains positive as global incomes rise and more people have discretionary spending on tourism, though industry observers worry about attracting new customers.

Global forces have contributed to the growth of the cruise industry in recent decades. The industry was historically elitist but began targeting the middle class in the 1960s-70s as air travel replaced ocean liners. Carnival Cruise Lines was founded to promote more affordable "fun ship" vacations. It has since grown into the largest cruise company by acquiring ships and cruise lines. As an international business, Carnival registers ships under flags of convenience for tax benefits but operates globally with ships, passengers, and crew from around the world.
This document provides an overview of the history of Harley-Davidson motorcycles in Cuba. It discusses how Harleys were first introduced to Cuba in the early 20th century and became very popular. It describes the rise of Harley culture in Cuba, with over 150 Harleys in Havana alone by the 1950s. However, after the Cuban Revolution in 1959, spare parts became unavailable due to the US embargo. Cuban Harley owners adapted ingeniously to keep their bikes running with improvised parts. Though some were forced to trade in their Harleys, about 100 pre-1960 Harleys still operate today due to Cuban mechanics' creativity. In recent decades, international exposure has helped reconnect Cuban Harley owners to the global community

Article
U.S. and Cuban officials signed an agreement Tuesday in Havana that provides for the reopening of scheduled air services between the two nations for the first time in more than 50 years.
The move is expected to set off a scramble among U.S. carriers to win route rights to serve Havana, which will be capped at 20 round trips a day from anywhere in the U.S.
Despite the restoration of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Cuba last year, the U.S. government still doesn't allow its citizens to visit Cuba strictly for tourism.
Visitors must vouchsafe that they fall into one of 12 categories of authorized travel, including family visits, educational or religious activities, humanitarian projects, athletic competitions, or public performances or exhibitions.
Americans traveling on charter flights that already link the U.S. and Cuba must certify to the tour company that the trips fall under a permitted category, something they presumably will have to do when they travel on scheduled flights.
But many experts think it is only a matter of time until tourism truly opens up. Canadians and Europeans routinely visit Cuba for the beaches.
The U.S. Department of Transportation said U.S. carriers must make their applications by March 2, with final comments and answers due March 21. Passenger and cargo carriers can apply, U.S. government officials said, and there is no restriction on aircraft type or size. The government expects to make its decision this summer and carriers could begin selling tickets on those flights in the fall.
The agreement also provides for as many as 10 round trips a day to each of Cuba's nine other international airports. As those routes may not be as hotly contested, the government could award rights to airlines that want to offer those services more quickly, officials said in a briefing last week. The new aviation protocol doesn't affect the charter flights now linking the U.S. and Cuba , and those flights can continue with unlimited frequency. Currently there are 10 to 15 of those flights a day. JetBlue Airways Corp., for instance, operates charter flights to Havana from New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport, Fort Lauderdale and Tampa, Fla., and flies from Tampa to Santa Clara, Cuba.
American Airlines Group Inc. operated about 1,200 charter flights to Cuba last year, more than any other U.S. carrier. United Continental Holdings Inc., Delta Air Lines Inc., American and JetBlue all said Tuesday that they are interested in bidding for scheduledflights, but didn't say on which specific routes.
Twenty daily scheduled flights to Havana aren't that many considering the airport in Kingston, Jamaica, receives more than 20 flights a day from seven U.S. airlines.
A newer tourism destination, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, gets a similar number of daily flights. But once Cuba's airport and tourism infrastructure improves and relations continue to normalize, the nation is expected to take off as a major new traveldestinat.
This document provides an overview of the global cruise tourism industry. It discusses how cruise tourism originated in the 1800s as a mail service carrying some passengers across the Atlantic. Over time, ships grew larger and began catering more to leisure passengers and tourists. Different types of cruises emerged to serve various niche markets like families, seniors, and adventure travelers. Modern cruise ships function like floating resorts with a vast array of onboard amenities and entertainment options. Cruising offers a unique experience blending transportation, accommodation, dining and activities all in one vacation package.
Between 1920 and 1959, 30-50% of all Americans traveling to the Caribbean visited Havana, Cuba, which had the best sanitary conditions and a pleasant climate. Over 1.7 million American tourists visited Havana in the 1950s for gambling, drinking and other amusements. In 1961, the US broke diplomatic relations with Cuba and banned travel there, causing American visitors - 90% of tourists at the time - to disappear abruptly. Cuba has since diversified its tourism industry and increased its hotel capacity and quality while tourism income has increased many times over.
The document is a magazine from lahabana.com that provides information about travel to Cuba, including guides to places to eat, drink, dance and stay in Havana. It includes articles about American travelers' experiences in Cuba, highlights various cultural events happening in June, and provides listings and reviews of attractions, restaurants, bars, hotels and other listings in Havana.

2. Carnival Cruise Lines has added Cuba to its
list of destinations!
Carnival Corp. is the first of its competition
to announce the new location as a focus area
for upcoming tourism!
This marks a big movement that will
influence other cruise lines and airlines to
include Cuba in their travel itineraries
3. Carnival’s parent company, Princess, as well as
eight other cruise brands claim to be launching a
seven-night, “people-to-people” tour to the island
beginning in May 2016!
The “people-to-people” government licensing
initiative allows exclusive trips to Cuba as Citizen
Ambassadors!
This plan is however very much in the hands of
Cuban authorities!
Without their permission, the seven-night
excursions will not happen
4. The CEO of Carnival Corp., Arnold Donald
was quoted as saying, “All of our research
suggests there is huge pent-up demand for the
Cuba experience.” !
5. Arnold went on to discuss the demand due to
the decades of non-commercial travel to the
island from the United States!
People are also extremely excited to visit
Cuba after President Obama’s decision to
open up diplomatic ties with Cuba and
loosen travel restrictions as well
6. There are still travel restrictions that will be in effect
when traveling to Cuba!
There are in fact 12 approved categories that bind U.S.
citizens if they choose to travel to the island without
having a license in advance!
Carnival has labeled their new offering as being able to
provide, “cultural, artistic, faith-based and humanitarian
exchanges between American and Cuban citizens”!
These reasons allow Carnival to classify their travels
under “people-to-people” travel, which lies under the 12
approved categories
7. An official itinerary has not been released for the
voyage, but travelers can reserve a spot on the ship by
paying a $600 deposit!
Fares will begin at $2,990 per person, plus taxes and fees!
This is drastically more expensive than other seven-
night Caribbean cruises offered by Carnival, but there’s
a strong allure for many people to become the first
people going to Cuba!
Initially, there will only be one ship going to and from
Cuba, however after the embargo is officially 100%
lifted, additional voyages will be added
