Cardiopatías congénitas are heart defects that occur during fetal development. They are caused by genetic and environmental factors and affect about 1% of live births. The most common types are septal defects, which are holes between chambers of the heart, and defects in valves like pulmonary or tricuspid atresia where the valves are underdeveloped and do not form properly.
