Cardiac tamponade is a life-threatening condition where fluid accumulates in the pericardial sac surrounding the heart, putting excessive pressure on the heart and impairing its ability to pump blood effectively. It can occur as a complication after a heart attack when the heart wall is weakened and inflammation develops, which can lead to rupture of the heart wall and the onset of cardiac tamponade. Prompt treatment is needed to address this serious condition.
