Capstone Presentation DUE: Sunday, November 13 th @ 11:59 p.m.
Assignment Explanation After completing the 2 nd literature review for your research question, you will develop a PowerPoint presentation. The following slides include an explanation of what must be included in your PowerPoint presentation. Consider using pictures, video, charts, etc. Make your presentation look professional Both of this links give you some information on creating professional presentations: http://www.arma.org/LearningCenter/Facilitator/uploads/PowerPointGuidelines.ppt http://mason.gmu.edu/~montecin/powerpoint.html
Narration EVERY ONE OF YOUR SLIDES MUST HAVE NARRATION IN THE NOTES SECTION. In other words, you will pretend you are actually giving the presentation in class. What you would say will be “said” through your notes. It’s like writing a speech. If you know how, you may use voice-over on your PowerPoint instead. DO NOT “read” your PowerPoint slides word for word. The slides are meant to help explain your speech, not be your speech. Notes Section
Introduction Slide You first slide will include the following: Presentation Title Your name Picture of yourself looking professional Year and major University Date
Research Question This one is easy. Give the slide a title and state your research question.
Impact Include at least one slide that explains how your topic is significant to your classmates Think about how your topic might be important to them. Include facts and statistics you think would grab them and convince them to pay attention. Be sure to include an MLA citation (like you would in a paper) for any direct quotes and statistics or facts you use throughout your presentation.
Present Your Research Information I expect you will need several (more than three) slides to give an thorough overview of your topic. Be sure the following is addressed: DON’T explain ONLY the negative or positive aspects of your topic, but ALL SIDES. What are the two (or more) key considerations? Identify key facts: Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Who is impacted by this topic? What are their viewpoints? What information do your classmates need to know to fully understand your topic? CONTINUED ON NEXT SLIDE
Draw a Conclusion In other words, after you have considered all of your research, make a judgment. Choose one of these ideas to help you draw a conclusion about your topic: Develop a solution to solve the problem in your research question. Provide support for your solution. Provide a detailed explanation of what was missing in your research and the information available to you and make suggestions for future research. Predict the future. What will happen in regards to your topic in the future? Explain in detail. Provide support for your predictions.
References Following MLA format, create a works cited list for sources From which you took a direct quote or statistic; From which you paraphrased; or From which you developed an idea. I expect you will use the sources from your literature review as a starting point. There are only two instances in which you do not need to cite When something is common knowledge or When an idea, opinion, or insight is YOUR OWN
Questions?? What questions do you have? Send me an e-mail or come to one of our library evenings/days. Make an appointment with me via e-mail to meet with me in my office.
