This document provides Italian phrases for common social situations when visiting someone's home or being introduced. 2. Vocabolario: visiting someone What do you say when someone comes to your house to visit? As you know, Italians can be a little bit formal  If you are entering someone’s house, you have to say, as you walk in: Permesso?

3. The person living there will reply : Accomadati (singular) Accomodatevi (plural) That means: make yourself comfortable Gli amici si sono accomodati sul divano.

4. Once you are settled, they will ask you if they can give you something to eat or drink: Vuoi qualcosa da bere? (singular) Volete qualcosa da bere? (plural) Vuoi qualcosa da bere? Ecco un chinotto e un succo d’arancia! chinotto

5. Don’t forget, if you are introduced to someone you don’t know, say: “piacere” (nice to meet you) Piacere!
