Selly Oak campus
The Selly Oak campus is less than ten
minutes from Birmingham city centre
and only five minutes away by car from
the Edgbaston campus, on an 80-acre
garden site near the village of Bournville.
Birmingham is at the heart of the UK’s road and
rail network, and is easily accessible from other
parts of the country and beyond. The University’s
main campus at Edgbaston, with its magnificent
architecture, is a major landmark in Birmingham.
The University’s principal campuses
are to the south west of Birmingham,
in Edgbaston and Selly Oak.
The Barber Institute of Fine Arts (R14) has a collection that
provides a stunning overview of western European art since the
13th century with work by artists including Botticelli, Degas, Van
Dyck, Monet, Manet, Turner and Van Gogh. The Institute also hosts
a wealth of musical events in its concert hall, with regular visits from
world-class performers, and occasional festivals. The building is now
Grade 1 listed and is the purest example of art deco style in the city.
Admission is free. Open: Monday–Friday 10.00am–5.00pm;
Saturday and Sunday 11.00am–5.00pm.

The Lapworth Museum of Geology (R4) within our Aston Webb
Building is one of the oldest specialist geological museums in the UK,
with over 250,000 specimens of rocks, fossils and minerals. There are
also large collections of early geological maps, equipment, models and
photographic material. Admission is free. Open to the public. See
website for information about exhibitions and opening hours:

Winterbourne House and Garden (G12) has dramatic seasonal
displays of over 6,000 native and foreign plants. Set within the original
Edwardian garden of borders, terraced lawns and woodland walks,
it is a focus for garden history and plant conservation, hosting talks
and events throughout the year. See website for information about
events and opening hours:

The Clock Tower (Near R1) in Chancellor’s Court is the dominant
feature of the campus skyline and a major city landmark. Dedicated
to Joseph Chamberlain, the University’s first Chancellor, it is known
as ‘Old Joe’ and stands 100 metres high. Its design is based on
the Mangia Tower in Siena and the largest bell weighs 6.5 tonnes.

Birmingham is at the heart of the UK’s road and rail network, and is easily accessible from other parts of the country and beyond. The University’s main campus at Edgbaston, with its magnificent architecture, is a major landmark in Birmingham. The University’s principal campuses are to the south west of Birmingham, in Edgbaston and Selly Oak.
