The Midtown Rotary Club of Mysore conducted a community service visit to the Vimala Terminal Care Centre. The centre provides shelter and care for the destitute who are terminally ill, mentally or physically disabled, aged, or abandoned. During the visit, the Rotarians and Inner Wheel members donated groceries, floor cleaners, detergents, and milk powder to the organization. They also handed over a cheque for Rs. 10,000. The inmates were served dinner and afterwards, one inmate entertained with a dance performance. The visit aimed to provide support to the care centre and bring cheer to those staying there.

Calasiao Dengue Fever Update as of Dec. 10, 2010Jesart De Vera
- 101 cases of dengue fever were reported in Calasiao, Pangasinan from January to December 2010, a 32 case increase from the previous report and 174% higher than the previous year. There were 2 deaths.
- The highest increases were seen in Barangays Nagsaing, Talibaew and Buenlag. 18 of the municipality's 24 barangays were affected.
- In response, the municipal health office is conducting education campaigns, distributing health advisories, cleaning drives, and misting operations in affected barangays to prevent further spread of dengue.
Dengue fever is a viral disease characterized by sudden onset of fever over 38°C lasting 5 or more days along with muscle or joint pains, petechiae on the arms, body, feet and legs, a positive tourniquet test and/or low platelet count under 100,000/cu.mm. The most important way to prevent and control dengue fever is to eliminate breeding sites of the Aedes mosquito by maintaining clean surroundings and discarding containers that collect standing water. To prevent dengue, it is important to eliminate breeding sites for Aedes by maintaining clean surroundings and discarding containers where water can collect. Fumigation and larvicides may be needed to reduce mosquito populations. Ongoing health education on prevention, control, and management of dengue is also key.
In 2008, 228 cases of dengue fever were reported in Calasiao, Pangasinan, Philippines, the highest number since 1998. The local government declared a dengue fever outbreak in August 2008 and implemented response activities including education campaigns, larviciding, and fogging. These efforts aimed to prevent further spread of the disease despite challenges from floods and other health issues. The outbreak declaration was lifted in November once case numbers decreased below epidemic thresholds.
