3. Preface by the President of the German Karate Federation (DKV)
Wolfgang Weigert
President of the German Karate Federation
Dear friends of karate from all over the world,
for the German Karate Federation, it is both an honour and a duty to hold the 22nd
Karate World Championships in Bremen. We would like to use them to globally present
our sport as innovative and geared towards the media.
For the first time in the history of our sport, we will link popular sport with competitive
sport: For three days, over 1000 of our spectators will practice with 86 top-trainers and
pass exams up to the 8th Dan before they will be cheering for the athletes for five days
during the World Championships.
The integration of the first World Championships for people with disabilities constitutes
a further novelty. Karate can be practiced by every person independent of age or
physical abilities - we impressively provide proof of this with the mutual World
Championships.
„A time to make friends“, this is the slogan of the World Championships in
Bremen.
A warmly welcome to all of you and let us enjoy together five unforgettable days of
top-level karate sport.
Kind regards
Wolfgang Weigert
President of the German Karate Federation

4. Preface by the President of the World Karate Federation (WKF)
Antonio ESPINOS
President of the WKF
The entire WKF waits since long time, with great expectation and excitement, the
arrival of big days for karate in Bremen. These wishes are also and without any doubt
shared not only by the German Karate Federation but also by all those that in one way
or another take part in the organisation of these twenty second World Senior
Championships, that come back to Germany after the great ones celebrated in the year
2000 in Munich, and that on the other side were my first World Senior Championships
as WKF President.
In the coordination visit that the WKF made to Bremen before the event, we have seen
the strong support that the German Federation has been able to agglutinate, as well as
the superb facilities that will be offered to the many delegations of the 5 continents.
Between them, we want to highlight the ÖVB Arena, a splendid venue that will make
possible the celebration of a high standard Championships and also by the vicinity and
the outstanding conditions of the selected hotels.
Finally, I want to thank the President of the German Karate Federation and the whole
organising team for their leadership, their hard work and their commitment to
overcome all difficulties and be in condition to make this huge contribution to the World
of Sport, and I also want to congratulate them for their success in having chosen a
working team fully capable to face the successful organisation of this great world event.
Antonio Espinós
WKF President
