Three letters written to home by me, H. Bruce Downey, on Uncle Tom and Aunt Mollie Brown Hounsley's farm outside Carlinville, IL in the mid-1940's to my mother, Blanche Smithson Downey.
As originally aired on NPR ---National Public Radio--- this is a true story of Danny's and Annie's love for one another over these past 27-years. It can best be seen and heard in its entirety with animations by Tim Rauch by going to

George Carlin's remembrance of his wife--- with musicBruce
Subtitled: "Bloom and Grow". George Carlin died in June 2008 and his wife before that. As unlikely as it may seem, George Carlin--- a somewhat obnoxious, hard-line comedian if there ever was one--- is said to have written these words upon the passing of his wife prior to his own demise in 2008. This has been circulating the e-mail circuit of the Internet for sometime now and is not original with me. The background music is from "The Sound of Music"--- the haunting strains of "Edelweiss" are heard throughout this presentation.
Enjoy.

Beautiful art featuring kids having fun--- the old fashioned way--- and once upon a time. No electronics here--- just fun in the snow. Are we really any happier today with our 'Christmases Present?' I don't think so!

This guy found these 2 grizzly cubs with the dead mother in Alaska . One cub survived and he managed to raise it to maturity.
You can see how his family interacted with the bear as it matured. Look at the size he has grown to. The bear must feel he's another pet (notice the honored guest at Thanksgiving dinner) and the humans are his "family".
He's housebroken, very gentle and comes and goes as he desires. Can you imagine having something like this as a pet? You certainly wouldn't have to worry about someone breaking into your house if you happened to be gone for a few days would you?

An e-mail that I turned into a SlideShare Slidecast featuring children's notes to God with background pics by Cebarre and the music, "Amazing Grace". In a word, this is quite 'beautiful'. ...Bruce*******
"The History of the World" --- from a perspective not seen or heard before. Who's a conservative? --- Who's a liberal? That, and the importance of "beer, beer, beer"! --- All in the name of fun --- with the right music to move everything along at a lively pace --- this YouTube clip of mine. ...Bruce******
These 1950's:--- "This Land that Made Me, Me"Bruce
These 1950's:--- "This Land That Made Me, Me" --- The 1950's were a time which shaped much of who I am today --- for I graduated from High School in the 1950's --- I graduated from College in the 1950's --- I earned a master's degree in the 1950's --- and I got married and became a father in the 1950's.. This presentation recalls the themes, the photos, and the music of the 1950's. And so I think of these 1950's as "the land that made me, me."
Beautiful Places, Words, and Music:---"these three; but the greatest of these...Bruce
The pictures of these places are breathtaking, but they are not original with me. The words are 'words-to-live-by' --- but neither are they original with me. And the music is 'forever-and-ever' for each of us --- but that too is not original with me. A friend of mine sent me these places and these words--- but neither were they original with him. Putting these places and these words with this music --- well, that's what I did!
Music by the Celestial Life Orchestra. Words by Gabriel Garcia Marques, a writer from Columbia.
"From Russia With Love":--- A Memorial to 9-11-01Bruce
The world-wide struggle against terrorism began with the tragedy of 9-11-01 when al-Qaida, led by its leader, Osama bin Laden, hyjacked three domestic flights in the United States and crashed two of them into the twin towers of the World Trade Center in NY City and the other into the Pentagon in Washington, DC. This is a review of the responses made, beginning with the 'Teardrop Memorial' given by the people of Russia and so symbolic of the world-wide struggle with terrorism, and ending with what two Presidents of the United States have done about it.
"The Way We Were" was 'what we watched on TV'Bruce
"The way we were" was 'what we watched on TV'. This is a review of at least some of those TV shows we all watched from 1949 to 1978, with a moving tribute at the very end to honor those Hollywood men who served their country in the military during the WW II years...most all of whom are now gone.
Katie Malua sings her featured song from the 2006 motion picture, "Miss Potter" starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor:---
"When You Taught Me How to Dance"
The clips in this presentation are from "Final Fantasy X and X-2." The music here is featured in "Peter Pan" ---a live action movie --- and this scene is called 'Fairy Dance' --- written and composed by James Newton Howard. Just sit back, let your imagination run, and enjoy this beautiful classical piece...
Winter Stom Warning on Sunday, March 1, 2009 came to southwest Virginia, and here is its effect at the end of Magnolia Lane. The temperature was 34 degrees at the time and so there was very little accumulation even after about 4-hours of fairly heavy snowfall.

An astonishing, first-of-its-kind, report by the NYT assessing damage in Ukraine. Even if the war ends tomorrow, in many places there will be nothing to go back to.

1. Brother, can you spare a dime? These times of ours--- they are a-changin’ --- for The Great Recession of 2009 is now upon on us all and with it many of our kind are doing little more than “… counting crows on the telegraph line”
2.
3. Our people are out of work--- and if they be forgotten, they then become as weathered as the landscape we find in the countryside of another era gone by.
4.
5. And those that do find jobs…they find them wherever they can.
6.
7. And for those who cannot find jobs--- they become as abandoned as the barns of an era gone by.
8.
9. As early as March, 2009--- I saw tent cities forming in places like Sacramento, CA--- not unlike those of the 1930’s.
10.
11. And these shelters of theirs--- become reminiscent of the homes of another era left neglected.
12.
13. And even the necessities of life--- take on a new meaning all of their own.
14.
15. And still there is this--- a sense of abandonment that permeates their all.
16.
17. And what these new homeless are left with--- is their sense of a shared misery.
31. And the hope--- that what’s down the road will lead to better times.
32.
33. But for now--- there is nothing but the dismay and the despair in their eyes…
34.
35.
36. And their despair and their hopelessness abounds--- for it is everywhere--- in their thoughts, in their lines, and in their ‘counting of crows on the telegraph line’…
37.
38.
39.
40.
41.
42.
43. This Great Recession of 2009 is not about us--- it’s about our own children and our own grandchildren, as they look ahead to their own times and to their own trials & tribulations that lie ahead.
