Child Life
Program
Our Child Life Program strives to
minimize the stress and anxiety
of children and families during
their hospital experience.
Through play and preparation of
activities, the program aims to
promote the child’s normal
growth and development while
in the health care setting.
Education activities are also
implemented in order to provide
community children and
students with information on the
hospital setting and experience.

Our Mission
WE BELIEVE:
 Play is an essential life process, a
natural phenomenon of childhood
and vital aspect of normal
development
 In the principle of educational
continuity for children in the
hospital
 Promoting positive attitudes and
understanding by teaching children
about health care and hospitals
when they are well, before the need
for hospitalization arises
 Providing children and their
families adequate preparation for
medical experiences before, during
and/or after hospitalization
 The Child Life Program should be
incorporated throughout the health
care setting. Including in-patient
and out-patient departments.

CHILD LIFE PHILOSOPH Y
WE BELIEVE:
 Each child, youth and family
is unique and deserving of
respect
 Health care should take place
in a humanistic environment,
in which positive growth
experiences are promoted
 Providing the child with the
opportunity to make
appropriate decisions to
enable them to have some
control over their situation
 The importance of fostering
and ensuing the continuation
of normal life experiences for
children within the health care
setting
 Hospitalization is a
potentially traumatizing event
in a child’s life
 The interdisciplinary model is
most effective,
comprehensive and often the
most efficient means of
treating the “whole child” in a
health care setting
 Hospital facilities should
incorporate and encourage
family involvement by
adequately providing for their
daily living needs.
