Is Thailand a safe?
Thailand is a safe place to visit, as long as you
follow some basic health and safety guidelines
and have respect for the local people and their
culture.
The most common dangers in Thailand are
sunburn, dehydration and hangovers, however
travelling in a group with Ultimate Thailand
makes it even safer! Our tour guides have
travelled Thailand extensively, and will share
their experience, local knowledge and hangover-
cures with you.
I’m travelling alone, how do I meet others?
Ultimate Thailand is a guided, group tour so you
won’t be alone. You will travel Thailand with a
group of other like-minded travellers, aged 18-
35 from all over the world.
Your tour guide will also be with you, to ensure
everything runs smoothly and you have loads of
fun. You can see our tour guides on our website
and Facebook page.
Do we go to the Full Moon Party?
Your trip includes 3-nights on Koh Phangan,
allowing you to experience a Full Moon / Half
Moon / Black Moon party. (There are actually
parties every night!)
This stage of your trip is flexible and will be
arranged by your tour leader whilst in Koh
Phi Phi. Choose to travel to Koh Phangan, to
coincide with the party of your choice.
Why is the trip only guided from days 1-7?
Our trip is designed to give you the perfect start
to your adventure in Thailand. After a week with
our guides, you will have the ‘know-how’ and a
group of friends to begin the next stage of your
trip unguided. We will pre-arrange your travel so
it will be easy.
If you need any help or assistance after the trip,
you can contact our support crew 24/7, who will
be happy to help!
What happens after I book my trip?
After booking you’ll be contacted by our
reservations team, who you can email with
your questions at any time. We’ll send you a
confirmation of your booking, then all you have
to do is arrange travel insurance and your flight to
Bangkok - we’ll take care of the rest!

Why we don’t ride elephants...
There’s certainly something magical about the idea of riding an elephant through
the jungle, and who doesn’t want to say: “I went to Thailand and rode an elephant”
and post some cool photos on Facebook to show your friends? Unfortunately
though, the truth is, riding elephants is not cool, and here’s why...
For thousands of years, elephants have been an important part of Thai culture. Due to their size,
strength and powerful trunks, elephants were highly revered as a creature for work and warfare.
However, in the late eighties, the tradition of using elephants in industry ended, due to bans
imposed on the logging industry. This created huge problems for the elephant handlers and
owners (mahouts) who had to find a way to pay for the upkeep of their elephants, who require up
to 200 kilograms of food a day.
Many mahouts found their only option was to earn money from tourists, through elephant
trekking, rides or entertainment. The tourism industry was a viable alternative but it came with
bad consequences, with the risk of exploitation when animals and commercialisation meet.
We won’t go into detail, but the sad truth is, we will never support elephant camps in Thailand
that provide ‘entertainment’ such as seated elephant rides, elephant painting or training
elephants to dance / sit / stand on two legs. Don’t believe everything you hear - these elephants
are mistreated and their ‘training’ is abusive.
We’re happy to say we do support a small selection of Thai elephant sanctuaries who are
dedicated to providing elephants with the highest quality-of-life possible. We would LOVE you to
experience elephants up close, in this kind of environment, so ask us about it and we’ll tell you
more!
Thanks for your understanding!

  • 13. Why we don’t ride elephants... There’s certainly something magical about the idea of riding an elephant through the jungle, and who doesn’t want to say: “I went to Thailand and rode an elephant” and post some cool photos on Facebook to show your friends? Unfortunately though, the truth is, riding elephants is not cool, and here’s why... For thousands of years, elephants have been an important part of Thai culture. Due to their size, strength and powerful trunks, elephants were highly revered as a creature for work and warfare. However, in the late eighties, the tradition of using elephants in industry ended, due to bans imposed on the logging industry. This created huge problems for the elephant handlers and owners (mahouts) who had to find a way to pay for the upkeep of their elephants, who require up to 200 kilograms of food a day. Many mahouts found their only option was to earn money from tourists, through elephant trekking, rides or entertainment. The tourism industry was a viable alternative but it came with bad consequences, with the risk of exploitation when animals and commercialisation meet. We won’t go into detail, but the sad truth is, we will never support elephant camps in Thailand that provide ‘entertainment’ such as seated elephant rides, elephant painting or training elephants to dance / sit / stand on two legs. Don’t believe everything you hear - these elephants are mistreated and their ‘training’ is abusive. We’re happy to say we do support a small selection of Thai elephant sanctuaries who are dedicated to providing elephants with the highest quality-of-life possible. We would LOVE you to experience elephants up close, in this kind of environment, so ask us about it and we’ll tell you more! Thanks for your understanding! - The Crew at Ultimate Thailand
