This document describes research on using a parsing algorithm to break down film scripts into breakdown sheets. The parsing algorithm takes a film script file in FBX format as input. It then parses the file, tags elements like characters, dialogue, and scenes. It outputs breakdown sheets that detail the cast, props, costumes, and other elements needed for each scene. The researchers tested the algorithm on a 19 scene script and it correctly broke down elements for 12 scenes. The parsing algorithm aims to automate the breakdown process and make it easier for filmmakers to organize production needs for each scene.
