The Boston Massacre was an event in 1770 where British soldiers fired into a crowd of colonists in Boston, killing 5 men. The colonists blamed the British soldiers for firing without provocation into the crowd. However, the Captain of the British soldiers blamed the colonists, saying they had formed an angry mob that was throwing snowballs and clubs at the soldiers. Ultimately, both sides assigned blame for triggering the deadly event.
