The Vienna Secession was founded in 1897 by artists including Gustav Klimt and Koloman Moser who objected to the conservative views of the Vienna Kunstlerhaus. It held its first exhibition in 1898 and was preceded by similar Secession movements in Berlin and Munich. Otto Wagner was an important member but not a founding member of the Vienna Secession.
