Summary of Active Matches in
       South Africa

          2006 - 2009
Devfin Observations
Greater success would be achieved through following up.
MoUs don’t necessarily result in long term relationships.
The program has enabled 287 Norwegian SME’s to explore
  opportunities in South Africa.
Over time the program has become more sector-focussed.
MMP creates links and networks for Norwegian companies.
Job creation (1997-2009) estimated at 500-600 jobs in South
  Africa.
Number of closures have reduced and this attributed to greater
  organisational efficiency and networking.
IN culture and network are service orientated and
  entrepreneurial.
                                                                      2
Devfin’s Observations
Interviewed companies in their sample confirmed:

Aborted co-operations were caused by market conditions,
lack of commitment, or companies going bankrupt.
Factors for success included a good fit between partners,
timing and commitment, a defined project and objective
  to work together.
Norwegian companies who had a former experience of
Africa, were more prepared to do business.

                                                              3
