This document reviews the evidence for various sympathetic blocks based on a literature search. It finds:
1) For sphenopalatine ganglion blocks, there were 14 relevant articles including case reports, case series, and 3 double-blinded placebo-controlled studies, providing low to moderate evidence of efficacy for headaches and facial pain.
2) For stellate ganglion blocks, 11 relevant articles including case reports and a prospective controlled study were found, providing low evidence for treating upper extremity pain and vascular disorders.
3) Few articles were found on thoracic sympathetic blocks despite their use for upper extremity pain, with only 2 relevant percutaneous technique articles identified.
